Summary

Emma ends up with is nothing of what she imagined. She soon finds herself rebuilding her life one baby step at a time. Alex POV As Katie was talking about how her job could really set them up for their future, she started talking about kids. I want kids. Bad. I hope my kids look like Emma and have her beautiful heart. "Matt is that something you are looking forward to? Starting a family?" I said as I sat down beside him on the couch. "I'm not getting any younger, so yeah. Just scared." "Why are you scared?" "What if I am not a good dad? Or something happens to me and I can't take care of my family?" "Oh, yeah. Well, I can't imagine you being a bad dad. As for something happening to you, what is the likely hood of that happening?" "I don't know man, but I can't shake off the feeling." He ended his conversation with me and got up to talk with the girls. Our conversation got me thinking. What if something happened to me and I couldn't take care of Emma and our future kids.

Prologue

Emma and Alex are in love, they were high school sweethearts. So naturally, after high school, they moved in together and went to a nearby community college with their best friend Matt. Matt soon after met Katie and then there was the four of them.

Emma is 24 and has a career in teaching. They lived in a small town on the outskirts of Denver, Colorado. As of right now, her nameplate outside her classroom read Miss. Anderson, but next fall it will be changed to Mrs. Williams. Alex proposed to her while hiking five months ago, on August 13th, 2017. That was what she thought the happiest day in her life.

It was now Christmas break and only a few days before Christmas.
