Trapped

The man with the graying hair wore a suit that seemed to slowly suck the light out of the room, with only the sound of his footsteps and the slight hum of electricity.

“Am I getting something wrong, because I swear the whole point of an interrogation is to you know,” I pause and stare at him, “talk.”

“Mrs.Kline, you seemed very,” the man pauses and stares at my bad posture and bored face,” relaxed,” he shakes his head and continues walking,” for someone who’s about to be charged with murder, treason, and terrorism.”

The man started to pace in my blindspots.

“Well, I think your fear tactics are weak at best,” he stops pacing,” I mean come on, walking in my blind spots. What is it, 2020?” I laugh,” I have experienced a lot worse than a few empty threats.”

He walks towards the metal table and sits down.

“You don’t scare me, the people you are scaring are kids who by the time they’re my age they will be made bitter, and broken down, but then they will come back made of galaxies.”

He laughs and that face, the face that makes me feel like a child, I want to slap it right off.

“How did a little girl like you become a terrorist?”

“I made a choice,” I pause to make sure he’s listening, “keep living my shitty life or actually have the chance to change the world.”

“Your to young to even begin to understand the world so how are you going to change it.”

I jump out of my chair, and almost screaming I say,” I have been through more shit in my life than you ever will. I watched a girl die in my hands from starvation she was five years old, I saw bombs going off and filling the cites with smoke and pollution to the point where I couldn’t even see my hand,” my hands start to shake and my breath starts becoming shallow,” While you all sit in your houses with your biggest worry is what your going to wear to a party.”

He pulls this thing out of his pocket. It was the size of my pinkie and was made of some type of metal. When he places it on the table an image pops up, an entire city is engulfed in flames then another one of a warehouse with what must be thousands of bodies. I quickly look away and my vision blurs and my breath becomes shaky.

“It’s not a pretty sight, is it? You see this is what you are your group does, killing innocents and causing chaos.”

I let the tears fall before I look and glare at him with fire burning through me.

“No harm,” I laugh at his idiocy,” what do you call hanging people for only the sake of invoking fear into everyone when in reality I’m not scared, most people aren’t. There angry because you,” I stare at the two-way mirror,” have killed their parents, kids, siblings, and friends. You are on a kill list that more people are seeing.”

“You really have thought long and hard about this haven’t you?”

“Well, I’ve had plenty of time to think in this room. Back on topic now, agent.”

“My name is Agent Shea,” he says in his monotone voice.

“All the people I’ve killed sorry supposedly killed don’t want to incriminate myself,” I give him a big dramatic wink and Agent Shea rolls his eyes,” they were definitely not innocent. Planning on killing thousands of people just because they don’t want to follow a dictator that has no compassion,” I laugh,” and they call me heartless.”

His face is like stone but I could just see the smoke coming from his ears.

“If those are the type of people you are protecting then I have nothing left to say to you,” I spat.

He laughs,” Mrs.Kline but I think you do because I need to know how this little terrorist group got started.”

Now it’s my turn to laugh, “You think I’m going to willingly tell you.”

“Oh, I know you will.”

Agent Shea turns towards the two face mirror and nods his head. A few moments later Indigo walks in with her hands behind her back, and someone with a gun pointed at her head. Her usually perfect skin was now littered with purple and blue patches. Her eyes are red and puffy from crying.

He walks behind me and whispers in my ear, “Your going to tell me what happened.”

I look at Indigo and she mouths it’s ok over and over again. I can’t stand to look at her anymore but I don’t look away mostly because I don’t know what to do. I knew this wasn’t going to end well but..

“And if I don’t?”

Agent Shea turns to the man in all black behind Indigo and before I even know what happens the sound of a bang goes off and in slow motion, I see Indigo’s eyes go big and her mouth opens to a scream. Indigo falls to the ground and I jump out of my chair and start to rush to her to see that her once pink shirt is stained red with blood and I turn towards Agent Shea but before I can make my move two guards come in and grab a hold of me.

They restrain me in my chair and they carry Indigo out but doesn’t try to stop the bleeding. The world seems to stop. Hot tears fall on my face and I start shaking but the guards won’t let up but that doesn’t stop me from struggling.

I shout every curse I can at him, the guards, at everyone. Why did I have to be so smug that I had to give that stupid answer? What did I think was going to happen. After what seems like hours until I could no longer shed a tear I sit still.

“Finally you calmed down, now how did this group start?”

I take a few deep breathes and say”Shooting Indigo did nothing to help you. How did her parents take her being used? Not well as I imagine.”

“If you really want to know they don’t care. She was disowned as soon as she became friends with you.”

What. I mean Indigo’s parents were strict and all but disowned? I try to keep my face blank, I can’t let him win.

“Now you’re going to tell me exactly what happened or I will slowly kill every single person you have talked to, starting with friends and family.”

“You wouldn’t dare.”

Agent Shea looks back again at the two-way mirror and I know what’s going to happen. But who? After what seems like an eternity Arson walks in and all the oxygen seems sucked out of the room. Our dark honey eyes that use to be similar his are now darkened to an almost black. His dark sepia skin was bruised and has even more scarring.

“Do you want your baby brother to end up like Indigo?”

I could tell Arson was scared but he was trying to be brave. I could tell because that’s what I’m doing right now.

I say in nothing more than a whisper,” what do you want to know?”

I can’t even look at him but I can hear him freaking out and before he’s dragged from the room I hear him say “You promised.”

He kept repeating it until he was taken from the room.

“Where were we Mrs.Kline?” he paused to think and then chuckled and smiled like a hyena,” tell me how this started and don’t leave one detail out.”
