The Fire
(Lucas's POV)
The spark and heat from the deadly flames consumed my brain. The smoke flooded my nostrils, while the blaze blurred my vision. The house was close to cinders but I knew I had to get in to save her... To save Cami. My fist bloodied as the glass shattered across the floor. Climbing through, my hand cut and bruised but that didn't matter, I needed to save her. The smell of gasoline hit me like a brick wall, then I realized... This wasn't an accident. When I entered I could barely recognize my surroundings but I heard her cry and instantly knew it was her. I pulled my jacket over my face to protect me from inhaling the toxic scent. I stumbled through the house and I knew I didn't have much time left. I made my way upstairs and heard the floorboards break beneath me. I reached the bedroom and kicked down the door and there I saw her, her cries filled my ears like a painful dagger crossing through my heart. I immediately grabbed her and held her protectively against my chest. "I need to find a way out." I said quietly to myself. I walked across the room to the balcony attached too her bedroom and knew I needed to jump. I slowly climbed over the railing holding Cami close and prepared myself for the jump. I took a deep breath and jumped. I felt the impact of my feet hitting the soft soil and began to walk, relieved she was safe. I walked towards a woman recognising it was her mother. She was crying and holding her chest calling for Cami. I slowly approached her, as she looked up her eyes glistened with a sense of hope as she saw her child in my arms. I gave her the child, she smiled, thanking me many times over. She said she would never forget this moment for the rest of her life.
