The Ana Diet
Staring at the mirror on the wall.
My knees wobble like they want to fall.
I remind myself of the accidents
in sports and running and colliding cars.
My stomach got a little wider.
I’ve thought myself less than a fighter.
Oh, and tears roll down from my eyes,
though it isn’t a surprise.
I’m always fat, fat, fat.
Pull down my shirt
and tie my hair in a bun.
Force my toothbrush down my throat,
not quick to say I’ve won.
I’m still fat, fat, fat.
Stand up but suddenly I hit the floor.
Lights go out, there’s nothing more.
Now there’s only pain and gore.
Lights go out, there’s nothing more.
