Summary

Hi, I'm Amaya. I've never really fit in anywhere and have never had anyone to call friend or family. Now that I do? It"s about to get real crazy here. What's a foster kid like me supposed to do when Death shows up my high school on the first day of freshman year waving a birth certificate, claiming I'm his daughter. Clearly laughing in his face and knocking both my twin older brothers unconscious was not the correct response. But can you blame me? It wasn't like I was going happily grab my things and skip to the car, especially after dumb and dumber tried to drag me with them. Yeah, nope. They're lucky all I did was knock them out and not break something. That should teach them some manners when it comes to girls. Anyway, this is how I found myself attending Deviva High a school for life and death with my brothers Thane, a reaper and Hayden, a healer. I also find out that my dead mother was Life and my dad is actually Death. And what am I you ask? Well I'm something much worse, so much worse. My name is Amaya and this is the story of how I may or may not have sentenced everyone to eternal limbo. But hey i can fix this... I think.

Prologue

I held the blade pointed at my brother, his pale grey eyes glaring back at me. They looked so cold that they were almost like ice. “You couldn’t have thought it would be that easy.” He smirked at me as he twirled his sword he held near his hip.

“I really didn’t think it would be that easy baby sis, but then again you are so utterly clueless most of the time. Plus, do you even know how to use that thing?” He stood there chuckling as as his grip on the sword tightened.

“You have no right to call me that. What makes you think I don’t know how to use it huh? Maybe I’m just giving you the chance to surrender.” I take a step forward the blade nicking him under his adams apple. “Or maybe I just enjoy watching the fear creep into your eyes Damien.”

For a second his shock cover his face and his pupils dilated, but he settled it back into his signature smirk. “Ha, well no point in hiding it anymore girly. All this blood and death for nothing. Tsk Tsk, how unfortunate.” He looks around the once pristine white courtyard, which is now stained red and littered with bodies. “You’ve been a very very bad girl. Could’ve saved us all this trouble you know? Oh well.” In a flash my brother drops like a sack of potatoes and I feel a blade slide against my throat and an arm wrap around my waist. “Siphoning all my people Amaya, not very nice. But that’s besides the point, I’d like you to create that soul now.”

“And if I don’t?” I snap, trying to hide how scared I really am. “What if I refuse to do it?” I can’t let his father win, not like this.

I feel him chuckle behind me. “Are you really sure you want to challenge me girly, that’s not exactly the smartest move.” He brings the blade closer to my neck, tightening his grip on me and pulling me against his chest and body. “I would hope you had a better plan than just sassing me.”

I drop my hand that holds the soul blade in defeat. He's right, I don't know how to make this stupid blade work and I have no plan. My eyes flicker up to the house just as I see Maggie run out to the edge of the force field. She bangs on it tears running down her face as she looks at my brother crumpled on the floor. I look down at him and back at Maggie and that's when I realize that there really is only one option.

I look down at my brother and see what I need. I slowly inch my foot toward the sword lying limply in my brother’s hands. I try my hardest not to make my movements too visible. Once the toe of my boot reaches the hilt I stamp do hard. The sword flies into the air, rotating. I snap my hand out and grab the hilt and bring down as hard as I can.

“NOOOOOOO!!!!!!” He screams as the sword lights up in a kaleidoscope of colors. I stab the sword through me and into him. A blinding pain flashes through my body. “WHAT HAVE YOU DOOOONE!!!

“What I should have done months ago,” and with that I yank the sword back through and black out.
