Baby Blues
"Hank, it's too dangerous. I don't want to."
Mystique is pregnant with their second baby and Hank wants her to go to the hospital since the baby has suddenly stopped moving. Recent events have strained human-mutant relations and although Hank is in good standing in both communities, Mystique's old distrust has increased during the pregnancy. Probably hormones. Knowing his wife's stubbornness, Hank lets the matter rest for now. He is considering calling in the big guns, in this case her brother Charles.
"Please, can you tell her to go. I'm worried sick and she will not listen to me. You know what she is like…" Hank has him on the phone.
Charles smiles, despite the situation; he is all too familiar with her moods. "I'll see what I can do."
"Your brother on the phone…"
"You're unbelievable," she replies. He receives a nasty glance.
"You know if you don't listen, I could use Cerebro and make you."
"Charles, really? Threatening me?"
"We're worried. Don't let your issues get in the way of seeking medical support."
"You should know better than to threaten me, Professor X!" She slams the phone down. Charles realizes she is seriously angry; Mystique never uses that name unless she is livid.
"Your decision," he mumbles.
It takes him hardly any time to track down Mystique. She is arguing with Hank and he is about to do the unforgivable and make her visit the hospital, when he has an idea. He could try… It might work. Charles focusses on the baby instead of Mystique. Could it be possible? She is pretty far along…
The baby is fine. Fast asleep, very fast asleep, but perfectly alright, as far as he can tell. He can see that it is a beautiful boy. Best not tell that to the parents yet, he thinks as he picks up the phone to share the news.
