I Know why the Blackbird Sang
I know not why the blackbird sang
each day beside her window.
But as she laid in bed and dreamed,
his music filled her head.
Her coughs were heard throughout the house
and her mother's heart was breaking.
She prayed each day for a miracle, that may keep her girl's heart beating.
The little boy played knights outside
at the end of the culdesac.
He guarded the castle from the evil dragon
that wanted to steal his princess away.
I know why the blackbird cried
when the leaves dies and fell.
His world grew cold and barren
and he was left without a friend.
The house grew silent, the yard grew empty,
the dragon came at night.
The lights were dark and the tree was bare,
though the leaves put up quite the fight.
He was small but he was mighty,
and he knew that it was time,
so the little blackbird spread his wings
and took off into the sky.
I know know why the blackbird sang
a sad song as he took flight.
His voice chirped with anguish
but I knew he'd be alright:
He was going home to see his warrior
who put up a worthy fight.
