Where It All Begins

I was practically your normal guy, or the nerdy stereotype people see asains for. To be honest I was that nerdy kid in school, the one who had large round black glasses and books piled high in my arms. Luckily I was no longer like that, the nerdy side yeah, but the glasses and books no more. I replaced them for better eyesight and coffee mugs.

By the way, I dressed you wouldn’t think my family owned a large business empire. Not being a bragging type, my family had so much money they could make Buckingham Palace, twice using their cash. That included the furniture. Being the only child and a male, my father and mother expected me to take over the family business. I didn’t have the heart to tell them I didn’t want to work for their company, to have my life being wasted away for something which they wanted.

I hadn’t let them win, I had a secret job working at a coffee shop in downtown, I would love to have a normal life. This was sort of my way of doing that. Even if it was a slow step at a time. They expected me to make friends at the school they sent me to, it was posh, had to wear a stupid uniform. And yes it hung off me like Stewart Little attempting to try on George Littles clothes. I didn’t end up making friends there but now I had the most awesome people ever. Jina and Leo, we met in Uni and stayed friends forever.

That wasn’t the worst part.

The worst part was due to the fact that my family were a higher Chinese household, they had their strict rules on how they see things. The main and biggest one was their views on same-sex marriage. They weren’t strong homophobic’s but they only saw marriage through a man and women.

That’s when it got harder for me.

When I realised from my first day of school that I was gay.

The sky above our heads stays its pretty shade of blue. Eventually now and then a small white fluffy cloud would pass by with not a care in the world. Along with those clouds were the few tiny birds which sung their song as they flew past. Keeping my head perfectly focused I could hear my shoes hit of the cobblestoned street. The street was well hidden away from the main street in downtown. The shops weren’t your popular brands but were more exciting and welcoming.

The street was slightly crowded like normal. For a tucked away place it was really popular with families and hipsters. They only came to the famous cafes and small vape stores dotted around. Leo would go into those stores, not because he vaped but because he said he enjoyed the smell. The fruit ones apparently. Jina enjoyed coming here for many reasons: its cheap, good clothing stores, and her favourite huge art store, one which I loved to go in and look at the colours. I wasn’t an artsy person, I preferred to write, but I loved all kinds of colours.

“Come on Jay-Jay, we wanna get food.” I focused my eyes to see Jina and Leo out in front. Leo had this huge cheeky grin which made his eyes squint and left these adorable dimples.

Elbowing my way through the small mass of people I made my way towards them. Leo wrapped one of his arms around my shoulder while Jina clung to his arm. I had to say they were the cutest couple I knew.

“So, Jay-Jay, were do wanna eat?” I sucked in a deep breath once I was given the question. Whenever a question was given I always buckled under pressure, even if it was my best friends.

“I... Erm...” Nothing came out but “erm” or “err.” It was ridiculous how I acted, acted like someone had asked me the most difficult question in the world. It was pathetic.

“Well, I chose last time so...” He spread out the o. Keeping my head held low my body was tugged back, the corner of my head hitting Leo’s chest. A little sound of pain came out. “Jina what are you doing?” He asked. Picking up my head she had trailed of from the pair of us. With her head slightly tilted she walked closer to a small cutaway alley.

Unhooking Leo’s arm I slowly made my way towards the hypnotised girl. Getting closer it was clear to see how amazed she was by the display. The building she stopped at was hidden on the corner, smaller and older than the others. It had small arched windows which had a beautiful cream coloured border. The door was painted a navy blue with two clear panels of glass running through the centre. Hanging high above the largest window was a sign which read, Mystiques.

Stopping by her side I could clearly see inside the window, it was clean enough to see our own reflections. In the display were small trinkets to show any passing by who noticed the microscopic building. The trinkets weren’t anything you’ll normally see, they were necklaces, rings, and a few brooches which were different than what your jewellers would sell.

With a small nudge, her head snapped towards me. “Why don’t you go in.” Her eyes glistened as her lips parted and a tiny little gasp escaped.

“Really.”

“Yes, now go.” Waving over Leo all three entered the small shop. Surprisingly the inside was bigger, it was thin but long, looked a little like Scotland Road aboard the Titanic. Along both walls were floor to ceiling shelves which had the most bizarre thing you could find. In the centre aisle were metal racks which housed shirts, jeans, and other items of black, red, and purple clothing. With an excited squeal, Jina pushed passed, her arms already flicking through the clothes.

“I’m gonna check out the stones,” Leo said before patting my arm and leaving. Pursuing my lips together and sucking them out I wandered around the warm store. Twisting my neck I looked back out the window, tilting my head the view of a guy in his late twenties walked closer to the window. Slung over his back was a dark brown leather jacket which attached to him well. His arm popped which made my lips purse again as I swallowed down the build-up of saliva. Tightly attached to his legs were a pair of black skinny jeans which defined his leg muscles.

I was scared of looking further but my eyes had a mind of their own. My cheeks burnt as I continued to look at his bulge which he didn’t seem to be fazed by. His ocean blue eyes dotted around the small trinkets which a few moments ago I was looking at. Biting down softly at my lower lip his eyes looked up. For a moment our eyes locked, I was hoping he couldn’t see me, but like most things he could, and I felt embarrassed as hell. But I couldn’t force myself to look away. Taking in a deep breathe of air a small smile spread along his face before giving me a wink. I felt my heart being tugged at.

“Ajay.” A forceful slap had my head lunging forward and looking towards my hitter. Jina stood with Leo shortly behind, her hands were pressed to her hips, one of her brows raised. “Hello, I’ve been trying to get your attention.”

“S-sorry.” I shook my head, quickly turning back to see the mysterious hotty had disappeared. Blowing out a large puff of air I turned back to my friends. “What do you need?” A sly smirk grew on her face.

“Help me pick out an outfit, it’s purple and black.” Taking a large grip at my hand she dragged me over to her pile of clothes. As I finished getting pulled the small ding of the door had our necks craning. Stepping through the door was my families partners children. Jennifer and Dominic Taylor. A few others behind them.

Parting my lips at the sight of Dominic, Jennifer’s eye lit up when she saw me. “Ajay, so weird we’ll meet you here, I thought you’ll be shopping at Prada, Gucci or Ralph Lauren.” She giggled. Even though our families owned the company together mine still had more money, well they did founder it, but I always thought Jen was a little jealous.

“Yeah, I-I know right.” I forced a smile, I was friends with Jen but she wasn’t the nicest all the time. Dom, on the other hand, was sweet caring and damn right handsome. I was jealous of the girls who got to date him.

“So, what brings you here?” She leaned up against the shelve full of stones, this was before she checked for dust.

“We were looking for somewhere to eat, but Jina wanted to take a look around.” Thankfully Leo had spoken, he stopped me from answering the question. He understood a little about my shyness and how self-conscious I was.

“Well we were doing the same, so why don’t you join us.” With a flick of her beautiful nugget hair, she smirked, I think it was her way of trying to get mine and Leo’s attention. It failed obviously because Leo’s taken and I’m gay.

“W-we don’t want to burden you.” I finally found my courage to help me speak.

“You won’t,” Dominic spoke out, a few heads turned to his sudden response. “What would our parents say, plus your our friend.” Trying to hide my smile I nodded.

“Great, come on then.”

The restaurant wasn’t really full, it was a little over lunch time so the crowd had died down. It was a good thing, I hate eating in front of others who I didn’t know.

The place was amazing, the floor was an odd mixture of yellow, white, and brown which complimented the chairs who shared the same colour, minus the white. The tables had a large white table cloth which draped over the wooden surface. The table setting is what caught my eye, they were gold plates and cutlery. In the centre was a bunch of fake flowers which had light coming off them. It was practically a lamp. Since we were a large group we needed to split, the big table was already taken up by a large party, the older guy looked familiar to me, from my father. My table coincided of me, Jennifer, Leo, Jina, and Dominic. Oh, God Dominic.

I thought I had lost my mind looking at the guy from the store. He was just beautiful but Dominic was definitely eye candy, better than anyone I’ve seen. You could say he was my third best friend. He’s a little older than me and when I was a child my parents brought him round to play and teach me. I had a nanny but they thought he was better since both families were close at the time. Once I got older and discovered myself I had grown to have a crush on him, one which I shouldn’t have, but I did. I mean how could I not.

Whenever he was around the entire world changed, it spun like crazy whilst my feet managed to stay on the ground. Eventually, they did fall, buckle under his amazing smile, that and when I took a sneaky look at his butt. Again how could I not?

“Ajay, sit next to me.” My eyes shuddered as I heard his husky voice enter my ears. With a small and shy smile, I made my way over to the chair which he pulled out for me. Taking the seat it was surprisingly comfy, I felt my cheeks burn as he pushed me under the table, an embarrassing small gasp came out. Taking the seat next to me our shoulder brushed up, we were up close since the table held four but he had five. I sucked in a deep breath as he pressed harder to my arm. Any more he would have snapped it, my arms were like noodles.

“So, how have you been recently?” He turned to me, those gorgeous eyes looked into mine. I felt a lump form in my throat as I couldn’t stop looking, I couldn’t even talk. “I-I-It was ok... I mean I’ve been ok.” I mentally slapped myself. “Works going good.” I found myself saying, it just came out. They knew about my job which he found big of me that I didn’t want to follow what my parents wanted.

“Why do you even have a job, your family have enough money to buy you the Caribbean.” Jen snorted as she unfolded the velvet menu.

“I just don’t want-.” Before my sentence could finish a tall waiter come to our table. Following Jen’s actions, I looked through the menu and chose what I wanted. I sat still for the longest time, each second I tapped my fingers on my thighs. This awkward situation only got worse. Whilst the waiters were placing down our plates I felt Dominic’s foot scratch up my leg. My cheeks fiercely burnt as I was made into stone as Medusa came back from the dead to take me.

“You ok?” He asked I must have looked like a mess, red cheeks, wide eyes, and my bottom lip weirdly quivering. He stopped scratching which made me feel better, he must have been scratching himself. “You feeling a little ill?” I shook my head vigorously.

“N-no, I’m fine.” His lips thinned into a sweet soft smile, my heart ached badly. After cooling myself down with water everyone around tucked into their meals. Swallowing the lump and wiping my sweaty hands along my thighs I took ahold of my fork. Before I could taste any of my mouth watering food a gentle tap had my head looking up. Again my heart ached, his stunning smile made me lose my mind and breath.

“Here Ajay, you’ve gotta try this.” Before I could even fight against his words his fork entered my mouth. My eyes went wide as he didn’t seem to care, plus his eyes just stayed fixed to mine. I was slightly scared and probably ready to collapse. Apart from that, the flavour was amazing, his starter was scallops that melted in your mouth, that and the source was to die for.

“Good right.” He spoke softly, it was more like a whisper. With his eyes locked to mine, he slowly pulled the fork from my mouth. Turning back to my food I felt my mind spin, so much that my food no longer looked delicious but sickly. From the corner of my eye, I could see him use the fork after I used it like he didn’t care.

The rest of the dinner went away, meaning I couldn’t remember what had happened. All I could think about was Dom, his eyes, his leg, and the way he looked as he pulled the fork from my mouth.

This crush was harder than I thought.
