The Arrival
"Today's the day", I reassured myself, standing outside of my soon to be "new highschool". Those words hadn't really sunken in yet. It was the middle of my senior year, and I had protested my parents to not move. I didn't think it was the right time. I had to leave everything behind. The palm trees, the warm air; the weather was always the best in my beautiful hometown Calabasas, California. I even had to leave all of my friends behind. I mean, all of my friends except one; my sister.
My sister Kelsey and I have been best friends since birth. Literally. We are identical twins, so it's always been Kels and Tori. I'm Tori by the way. Tori may be my name, but leave it to Kelsey to annoy the shit out of me with my other so-called "nicknames". Everytime she calls me "Vic" or "Vickey", I feel the urge to scream. She knows that. That's why we always work well together. We know each other like the back of our perfectly pedicured hands. Although she's annoying most of the time, I love her more than anything and probably even trust her with my life.
I snapped back to reality and cocked my head to the side confidently, turning to face my sister. I could see the nervousness hiding behind her blank stare as she turned to look at me as well.
"Ready to go inside?", I asked with enough enthusiasm to make it seem genuine.
"Yeah", she said as she started marching forward without looking back. I guess she somehow knew that I would just follow and let her take the lead.
