Souls
He carressed my face. So careful. So smooth. It was as if I was a piece of China, like I would break at the slightest touch. Remembering all that had happened that day, my head dipped, eyes glancing at the checkered floor tiles. Kai cupped my chin in his broad hand and lifted my face to meet his eyeline.
His beautiful ocean-like eyes shimmered in the light, creating the illusion of waves crashing down on the shore. They were mesmerising. Slowly, Kai raised his hand to my head, running it through my hair. “Your name really suits you, Aphrodite,” he began,”You truly are the most stunning girl I’ve ever laid my eyes on.” Upon hearing this, my cheeks turned rosey and I couldn’t help but smile. How did this man always manage to make my heart flutter and happiness grow with just a few words? I was speechless. “I-I —“ I attempted before being cut off by a hushing sound. Not a harsh ‘shut up’ type but the soothing ‘I understand you’ type. Lightly, Kai’s hand traced down my shoulder, leaving a tingling sensation throughout my arm. What I did next surprised not just him but also me...
I clasped my hands around the back of his neck, pulling him closer to me. Our lips collided, my head tilted slightly to the right. Taking great care, he held my waist.
At last, we broke the kiss. Just then, I was about to the second craziest thing I’d done that evening. “I love you,” I whispered, finally sure of one thing in my life,” I love you, Kai, with all my heart.” Rather than using words, Kai kissed me, his little way of saying ‘I love you too’.
That night, we cuddled on the sofa, his head resting on mine, mine on his shoulder. As the television flashed green to pink and pink to blue, Kai placed a caring kiss above my brow. It was full of affection, hope and most importantly, love. Kai was the man of my dreams. The man I knew I wanted to share my soul with. The man I knew I loved.
