Encounter

“Have you ever wondered what it’s like to have a world with no rules? People can do whatever they want in a world like that—a world with no limitations and restrictions.

That idea appalls Leia Whiteford, a serious student recognized by almost all in her university. She seemed to excel at everything including things non-academic.

The daughter of the Whiteford Group that owns many public assets, she strives to inherit one of her family’s hospitals, and her cold attitude and naturally noble behavior earned her the image of a steely beauty with a resting bitch face.

“This review is so boring,” Leia sighs. She places a hand on her pale, slender neck and stifles a yawn as she looks away from the board for a moment. Twirling her long brown hair around one finger, she dares to close her eyes for a few moments.

A few moments passed before Leia decides to listen attentively again to the professor as class continues, taking down notes.

School has never been fun to Leia she just follows whatever orders the professors gives to her and does most of the work alone.

“Have you heard? They’re discussing about prom night, I wonder what dress I should wear?” whispers a student in the seat in front of Leia.

“You’re thinking about the dress but you don’t even have a date yet!” replied her friend.

They both started to talk about the cute boys in class and the ones in the next which Leia found to be trivial nonsense.

Who would want to participate in some ridiculous event anyway?

“Okay class dismissed, don’t forget to do your assignments alright?” The professor drones as he the students stir and rise.

The class gathers up their belongings and streams straight out of the classroom. The incessant whispered complaints about the projects and assignments grated on Leia’s ears, who remained in her seat till everyone was gone.

Leia was about to stand up but the professor calls out to her, “Miss Whiteford, a moment if you may,” he asks firmly.

She turned her head to the direction of the speaker, “yes, what is it professor?” she asks, aiming her dark brown eyes straight into his stare.

“I want you to deliver this to the principal’s office; it contains all the profiles of each student in one of my classes,” He explains as he walked towards her handing a brown envelope to Leia.

“Understood,” Leia says as she receives the file.

“Thank you, I’d appreciate it if you don’t peek inside. Like I said, they are all student profiles.”

“Yes sir.”

After a mundane goodbye, she leaves the room and starts making a straight beeline to the principal’s office to hand in the files.

“Aishh!” a blonde girl cheers, throwing her hands up and startling everyone else in class.

“For what good reason are you suddenly shouting in class, Miss Ridgewell?” the professor’s razor voice cuts through the air straight at the grinning girl.

“It’s not my fault your class bores me, Ma’am. I’ve got to find ways to keep myself awake,” she shrugs casually, earning a few laughs from the class.

“Just because you excel in all of your classes doesn’t mean you can disrespecting your professors like that Miss Ridgewell—“suddenly, the bell rings and students begin to gather up their belongings to leave.

The blonde girl kept quiet as she stares straight ahead, watching her professor preparing to leave.

Sighing she stood up and walked straight to her and hid both of her hands to her pockets.

“Sorry about that Prof. Bernadette. I guess I went too far,” she apologizes.

“Miss Gail Ridgewell, I appreciate you excelling my class along with other subjects, but if you continue to violate the rules and regulations of this university I’m afraid you might have to face dire consequences,” the professor says, peering at the girl over her glasses.

“I’ll try my best not to get expelled,” Gail winks, taking a hop backwards, “well, see you around Ma’am!” she waved and ran straight outside of the classroom.

Gail was walking around the corridor as she passed by students who were looking at her with mixed gazes of envy and admiration.

She excels in all of her classes but fails to make it to the honor rolls due to her misconduct. Gail doesn’t care about that, however. She’s made a name for herself with her intelligence and her bubbly personality. Her cheerful grin and flowing blonde hair makes her look like an angel to the other students, or maybe royalty. This earned her the title Princess Gilo.

“Hmm, prom night is about 3 weeks away. Who should I dance with?” Gail stopped walking in the middle of the corridor and furrowed her eyebrows, crossing her arms in deep thought.

“What are you doing?” a low voice asked causing Gail to jump quickly, turning around to see who asked her a question.

A boy with red hair stands grinning with amusement on his face from Gail’s reaction.

“Oh, it’s just Max. God, you almost gave me a heart attack!” Gail slapped his shoulder as they both exchanged greetings and laughs.

Max laughs, spreading his hands, “sorry about that. It’s just ’cus you were standing in the middle of the corridor. Look, some of your fans have started to snap photos of you,” he muses.

“Yeah, yeah. Listen, I was thinking of who to dance with in the upcoming prom—wait, what?” Gail stops, looking around and causing a small group of girls to squeal and run off, smart phones in hand.

Gail grins, “heeey, those are some good girls,” she waves at them, earning another round of squealing.

“Miss Gail, would you like to be my partner for this upcoming prom?” one of them asked.

“No fair! I was going to ask her first!”

“No me!”

“Alright, enough of that. Let’s go, Gil-o” Max interrupts, shaking his head and walking straight ahead, clearly expecting Gail to follow.

Max is Gail’s childhood friend; his name is Max Larkin, a player for the school’s varsity team.

They grew up in the same neighborhood and both of them came from Finland.

He’s really popular with the girls in the clubs when he hits the dance floor. They’re close enough to be mistaken for siblings if it wasn’t for his auburn hair.

Gail was about to catch up with him when someone caught her attention she saw a certain brown haired girl walking towards the principal’s office with papers at hand.

The girl’s long hair bounced hypnotically against her back as she strutted with finesse, like royalty. Her half-closed eyes showed an incomplete glimpse of dark-colored orbs that radiated an aura that cannot be startled. It was as if she was a queen who has seen all before her. She was breathtaking.

Gail broke into a smile and walked straight to where Leia is heading at.

“Found you.”
