Chapter One: Home Alone

So many seconds, minutes, hours, days, and nights. Everything seems to go by so slow for me. I wonder how fast it goes for others.

I take a deep breath in and rub my eyes, but once I breathe out a yawn forces it's way through. My parents have been gone for ten minutes and I'm already tired. This house is way to cold and I'm already wrapped up in every blanket I could find. So when a small knock resounds throughout the house, I wasn't very happy. Now I have to leave the comfort of my cocoon.

While I was contemplating the pros and cons of getting up, the kncoking came again.

"One moment!" I yelled, my voice rough and slightly cracked from not using it.

Slowly, I ripped the blankets from my skin and made my way down the stairs, the cold air pricked me like needles in pin cushion. The stairs cracked and squealed under my weight, almost if they where screaming as I crushed their bones and carved out the marrow. When I reached the bottom, the old floorboards did the same. The wallpaper on the walls slowly peeling itself off of it's body like skin being sawed off.

Looking up from my feet and being faced with the large dark wooden door, almost as if I was about to walk straight into my demise. My hand reached for the cold and rusted door knob, turning it slowly, hearing the dirt scrape at the metal trying to hold it in place.

Once I had the door knob fully turned, I slowly pulled my arm back and with it came the door. No one stood there. I looked up, down, and side to side. All that lay on the door step was a small rag doll.

The doll was made up of many different colored brown rags sewed together, one of the eyes was a button and the other was a green glass eye. The mouth sewn together by red thread that was loosely held to it, in fact some stuffing was falling out as well. The doll was small, it could only be about the size of a sippy cup.

"What an odd thing to leave here..." I said quietly to myself.

The doll the sat up.

"Herol" it said cheerfully.

"WHAT THE FU-"

Knox Hollow: Little Bunny

Neenee73: The author managed to weave instant tension and mystery from the get go. It was a balancing act that kept me guessing and made everyone look like they could be a villain which is on par with the great writers of mystery like Agatha and Doyle. I was jumping at every creak. If you like tension in ever...

Max1andRuby2: I was liking the story idea and got through a few chapters, but had to stop as the writing itself was so poor.
