Chapter 1 - America

Chapter 1 - America

Patriots. Presidents. Senators. Congressmen and congresswomen. Governors. Whatever the position, they hold a position in America. They also have a duty to hold and honour America in anyway possible. Upholding that position may be the most difficult thing ever done. A real patriot will do anything it takes to protect their country. And that starts with the president.

2016. President Sebastian Keen. Elected in 2014, and successfully serving the American people. Married to DeLaurence Keen, and father to three boys and one girl. Now, everything was going great. But that’s how everything starts out, great. From there, did it go downhill? Did it get better, or both?

“Mr. President, you then have to be present at the conference to make your statement about gun control, and have your wife stand up with you.” Mr. Miller said following behind the president with his tablet on his arm.

“First, we need you to introduce yourself with the group that is touring the white house today. Pictures will be taken to prove that you actually interact with people and events that go on here.” The president turned and nodded at his secretary while slowing down to reply to his agenda.

“Sounds good, Eric. And tell the Chef to get my lunch order early this time, I want to surprise my children with a lunch today.”

“Yes Mr. President.” Tapping on his tablet, Eric walked with the Secret Service and the president through the building. Around the corner from their path, was the tour guide and guests of the white house. It annoys the president that he has to do this, but public relations ordered it.

“Cameras one and two are CNN and three and four are our guys at Press Corps.” Ryan Cain, media connections, joined the squad coming out of his office and turned to the secret service agents. Intimidation reigning in his view as he took in the agent’s appearance.

“Got it.” The president smiled bright, and immediately turned the corner.

“And this over here is-..” The tour guide began. “This is the magnificent, great, and amazing, president of the United States, president Sebastian Keen!” Gasps and smiles came to the light, and everyone turned around watching as the cameras flashed. People stepped forward along with their children to fully turn towards the most powerful man on the planet. People indeed wanted to go up to him, and shake his hand, while talking directly to him, but the secret service would not allow that.

“Mr. President, it’s an honour.” A woman came forth. She was middle aged, and had two children with her. She wanted to shake the president’s hand, so she moved forward. One small action, but the Secret Service on edge. The president’s hand went up immediately taming their reaction, and he easily shook her hand.

“Likewise, and how are you today, ma’am?” President Keen’s language was kind and cherishing as the woman merely shook her head. Her curls immediately bouncing while looking back at her children.

The president’s eye went to the two young children and through the rest of the crowd.

“You have a wonderful day ma’am.” He swiftly moved onto the next visitor, and showed just as much kindness.

“I didn’t even want to be here!” A faint voice was heard, causing the president’s eye to drift away from the person he was talking to. His eyes moved to the teenager who was standing in the back, slightly protesting.

“Why not? It’s always an amazing day to visit the white house!” Keen shouted causing the crowd to turn to the back. The teenager’s face made it to the president, and he immediately stepped back.

“Look, Mom sa-..” The man was cut off as he saw the attention now fully on his younger sibling. He looked at the president, cameras, and back at the crowd. His eyes went on the president for a while and back on his brother.

“He didn’t want to come, unless he could meet you.” He said with tons of uncertainly in his voice. “Right, Grayson?”

“What?!” He mass shouted out and caught his brother’s hostile cautious look.

“Yes.” He sighed out, turning towards the president and grabbing his youngest brother by the hand and pulling him close.

“What’s your name son?” Keen said louder and with a southern bass in his voice.

“Grayson.” Grayson let out silently and with a bit of fear lingering in his voice.

“Well hello Greyson, and who brought you here today?” The president shook his hand and everyone’s attention was on the two.

“My older brother, he’s a doctor.” The youngest blurted out right under Greyson’s hold.

“Oh, is that so?” The president bent down to his level. It was directed to the trio of males, and brightly considering, he wanted to know more.

“And who are you, little fella?”

“I’m Chance, and I’m five.” He corresponded five fingers and looked at the president, without the best idea of how much power that he held.

“Well Chance, I can see you are as smart as my son, Oliver. He’s also five.” Keen’s hand went out and lightly shook Chance’s.

“That’s nice. Can’t you tell him what to do?” Chance’s finger pointed to the secret service member who stood to the president’s left, and Keen shook his head lightly while chuckling.

“Yes, I can tell him what to do, but it’s the other way around.” Keen’s eyes went up to the older man standing behind the pair.

“You must be the doctor?” Keen stood to full height, and shook the hand of the man standing.

“Yes sir, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” The scrubs under the jacket was the giveaway, but there was no name tag for the president to read.

“What’s your name?” Keen asked put his hand to his side.

“Dr. Chandler Wells, ER.” Chandler was looking the president directly in the eye and wondering if saying his department was relevant.

“Good! You’re hands on with patients who come into emergency. Brave choice son.” He patted Chandler’s shoulder and saw immediately how the flinch was almost automatic. Under his hand, Chandler jolted with an unnoticeable gasp.

“Thank you sir.” Chandler lost all of the nerve he had to look the man in the eyes. His eyes were now scattering across the room.

“Well, Dr. Chandler Wells, I hope to see you again, in non-emergent situations.” Keen turned and went to the next visitor, leaving the pair of boys uncertain of what to do. Chandler reached his arm out for Greyson and Chance to come closer to him, and they did. Their eyes were directly on the president, as he introduced himself to the next visitor.

“Come on guys, mom wants us back at home..” Chandler said slowly with his eyes still on the president. He was uncertain of what to think, but what he did know, was that it was weird whatever just happened.

**

“Come on mom, you know that they do not want to go!” Chandler said to his mother with a serious and wine tone. His mother looked up from the mirror, and her blue eyes traveled to him. The glare was deadly killing him, as he slowly backed down.

“Fine, I will take them, but if they mess something up, it’s not my fault. I will remind them to behave, but you know that Chance will do whatever he wants in the end.” Chandler adjusted the strap on his backpack and avoided his mother’s bright blue eyes.

“It’s actually good for them to go, they’ll learn a little history, while learning about the current president.” His mother’s tone was soft, while she explained the pros to her two youngest children going. Chandler’s face didn’t disagree, but you can tell that he did. He turned his head to the right to peer down the hallway, and roll his eyes. Inhaling, and exhaling, he turned back to his mother and shook his head.

“Okay, I will make sure they learn something too.” Sarcasm and disagreement clear in his voice, he walked out of his mother’s room.

“Where did you even get tickets to tour the white house from anyways?” Mumbling under his breath didn’t make anything better, but he certainly wanted to know the answer to his question.

“A co-worker, now don’t worry about it, and you go learn something to.” Ms. Well’s said behind him.

“I’ve learned enough!” He shouted from the kitchen. His youngest brother came storming into the kitchen, while running at top speed.

“Slow down McQueen.” Chandler put his hand out on his little brother’s head, and eyed him carefully.

“I do not see a race track anywhere around here. What gives you right to make the rules?” Huskily, he spoke with the darkest tone that he could muster.

“Rights!” He bolted to his left, past his brother, leaving his brother there to think about what he just said.

“He’s right.” Chandler whispered to himself while turning and grabbing the bowls to fix breakfast.

--

“Anyways, if you two will just please behave, for me.” Chandler stood in the lobby of the white house waiting for the tour to start. His brothers were in front of him, as he pleaded with them to be on their best behaviour.

“Whatever.” Grayson’s eyes pierced into his phone screen while he completely ignored Chandler’s voice.

“We all don’t want to be here, so why don’t we just buy something from the gift shop to show mom, and leave?” The suggestion came out of his mouth harshly, but that’s what’s expected from a teenager his age. Chandler’s look towards his brother was astonishing. He couldn’t believe his brother would say something like that, but still he was use to the nasty attitude.

“Just hope that I get called into the ER.” Chandler said turning around and taking in the appearance of the lobby.
