1. One more chance.

"Hey Danni, care for another round?" I smiled and let the smoke run through my lungs and then breath out again. I felt it going around my body like I was floating, like I was free of all the problems that faced me. I was high as a skyscraper. All I could see was the joint being passed around and ended up in my hands once again. "Looks like I got the last go," I said and let the smoke go into my lungs and breath out again. Danni took the joint away from my hands and lighting the last tiny bit of it. "Danni, I think it's dead man," Matt said and took a sip of the vodka bottle he had in his hands. "Yeah, it's dead," Danni said and coughed. I laughed at him, it was so typically him, trying to get the very last bit every time.

I could feel my phone buzzing in my pocket. The caller id showed my mums name. Fuck.

"Hey mum," I said, trying to act sober. "Are you aware of the time, young lady?" My mum yelled into the phone. "I'll be home in ten minutes, I must've forgotten the time again" I lied into the phone.

She continued yelling at me, but I just shut out her voice and rolled my eyes. "If you're not home in ten minutes, I will personally send you to hell", my mum said.

"I'm on my way home", I said and hung up the phone. "Sorry guys. Gotta go". I waved and walked home and tried to sober up before my mum saw me.

"It's only been 7 minutes", I say as I take off my shoes and jacket. My mum stands in front of me with her arms crossed over her chest. "You smell like smoke and alcohol young lady". I look at my mum and put on my best sober act. "That I can explain, Danni spilt alcohol all over my jacket and you know that Matt is a smoker". I shrugged and walked past her into the kitchen to get something to eat. I was starving. "You're unbelievable! I've told you not to hang out with that kind of people". Like I cared.

I went up to my room, looking through my Instagram, Matt had posted a photo of him with a joint in his mouth and his arm around me. I smiled and wrote a comment saying "These summer nights are the best x". I put my phone down and went to bed.

"Maya!". I could hear my mum yelling from downstairs. I groaned. It was too early for her to be screaming at me like that. "What?" I yelled so she hopefully could hear me. I could hear her walking up the stairs. Why was she yelling from downstairs, making me yell back at her and then she walked up the stairs anyway?

"What is it, mum?" I say, annoyed at her when she opens my door. "We need to talk about your behaviour lately" she says with a serious tone in her voice. Here we go again.

"You hang out with horrible friends, you smoke, you drink, you almost never show up to class and you lie all the time!". I look at her, putting up a serious face like I always do in these kinds of conversations. "I know mum, I'm so sorry, I'll try my best to be better at school and be home before curfew" She always believes me when I say this, so why not this time. "One more chance Maya!" She says and walks out of my room.

I get out of bed and put on some clothes before I have to leave for school. I go downstairs and take an apple before walking out to Danni who picked me up in his mustang and drove me to school.

"Hey babe" he says as I close the car door. "Danni" I say smiling. "I've got one more chance left" I say and grin. "That's the third time she's said that, right?" He says lighting a cigarette. "Oh yes, but you know what? This time I may actually believe her!" Her face were more serious than it was the last times. That was what made me believe her for once. "Better not get caught". We drive while listening to the radio, like we did everyday.

"Maya!" I hear the voice of my best friend Mia. She came running down the school hall in her pornstar heals and a skirt that's way to short. She's almost like me, always hanging out with the wrong people, but she never gets busted and honestly, I don't think her parents even care.

"Heard your mum gave you your last chance?" She says with a sly smile.

"Yup, news travel fast these days". I look up at Danni who shrugs. His face however is full of mischief.

I walked to class with Mia by my side. She tells me all about how her boyfriend broke up with her in the weekend, but they slept together again later that night so they're not really broken up. To be honest I'm not really listening anymore because it's always the same gossip.

"What do you think I should do?" I look up at her unable to answer. "Were you even listening?" She asks me with a frown. "Sorry, got a lot on my mind, see you at lunch?" I give her a quick hug and go to class.

Once the bell rings I get my stuff and make my way to the cafeteria. On the way I meet up with Matt and Danni, who supposedly hadn't been to class. I could see the red in their eyes which meant they had been smoking.

"You really need to stop smoking at school". I look at Matt who shrugs. "But as long as we're not busted doing it, we're fine" Danni says as we enter the cafeteria.

"Maya?" I look up to see both boys and Mia looking at me with treacherous looks on their faces. "What?" I say mildly annoyed at their behaviour. "Are you going to the party later?" "Who's is it?" I ask.

"It's someone named Nick". Even though I'm on my last chance I really wanna go to a party tonight. "Yeah sure, pick me up before the party?" I ask Danni and he nods. "8 o'clock babe".
