Chapter One

My eyes couldn’t take in what was in front of me.

The heavy thumping of my heart against my chest, making it the only thing i could hear.

As i stood in the main square of what was once a radiant and beautiful village, a village i called home, the houses around me that once stood tall and study, now in hot ashes around me.

It was overwhelming, unbearable...

It was so silent yet you could imagine the screams and fear without seeing it. I couldn’t take it.

I ran.

I ran as fast as my legs could carry me.
I didn’t stop until a risen root from a oak tree had caught my foot, sending me flying forward and onto my front.
I gasped for air, winded. But it seemed to have brought me to realisation of what had happened. My family was dead, my village gone.
Tears brimmed hazel eyes, soon drizzling down my cheeks one by one. I sat and cradled my knees, leaning my back against the tree as i silently sobbed.
But, i remained strong. I felt a wash of vengeance wash over me, as i slowly rose to my feet. I smelt a faint scent of the army whom wandered this way.
The one scent standing out to me. My fangs protruded and glistened against the sunlight as i realised who did this, making the werewolf in me start to rise up to the surface... Wanting to take control.
I pictured his face in my mind, the man who caused me the pain and suffering of losing my family. My home. My life.

Stephen Winters.

In my mind, i made a vow to my parents.

To myself.

That i, Katherine-Rose Yeager, was going to avenge my village. I was going to show Stephen Winters who he was messing with.
Watch your back Stephen Winters, a new enemy has risen.

-Two Years Later-

.KATHERINE.

I awoke, a sheen of sweat covering my entire body, my breath hitching and fast.
I still have the same nightmare every time i close my eyes, of that fateful day. I sighed softly, checking the time on the clock on the wall.

7:43am.

I arose to an upright position, stretching my limbs before the realisation dawned upon me. It was my last day here, at the Silverbeck Training Grounds. I’ve lived here for nearly 3 years, training everyday from 8:00am to 6:00pm.
I did this for the one reason, of course.

For vengeance.

I quickly threw on a pair of black sweatpants and a white vest, throwing my brunette hair into a slick ponytail. I checked the time, leaving right on time after doing the rest of my everyday morning ritual.
My belongs were packed into a bag i had slung tightly around my shoulder, not that there was a lot.
Silverbeck was a large manor-like building that hosted many young trainees like me, only i’ve been here longer than most. I joined when it just opened, being one of the first here.
It had one main room, where we all went to train. As i entered it, i took in all of the people, looking at both familar and new faces. One being my closest friend and tutor, Sage. I smiled when his eyes met mine, making him smile back.

“Hey Kit.” He grinned, greeting me with his nickname for me.

For his age, 48, he was still a well built man that could teach like he was in his 20’s still. His once jet black hair now starting to lighten into a grey tone, swayed in the wind blowing in from an open window. But, his eyes never changed, no matter the amount aging. They were a vibrant green, like emerald that shone in the light.

Sage took me in when i needed it most, of course. He treated me like one of his own, which helped me a lot. Then, he got me into training straight away, he said that i had ‘fighting in my blood’.

Hey.” I simply greeted back.

“It sucks it’s your last day here, really gona’ miss you Kath.” He said softly, his eyes glistened over with sadness.

“I’ll still pay visits, to come see the fights you always lose.” I grinned, gently punching him on the shoulder.

We walked towards the main doors of the manor, my bag hooked over my shoulder.

“Yeah yeah, we both know i always win.” Sage grunted out, a lop-sided grin on his face.

I chuckled before turning and taking in one last look of the large building. Damn, i was really going to miss this place.

“Hey, Kath?” He said, as i looked over my shoulder at him, urging him to carry on talking. “Wherever you go from here, i just want to wish you well.” He said sternly, know full well that i was up to something. “I don’t want you to end up in some jail cell.” He said, his eyebrows furrowing in both seriousness and humor.

I nodded with a small smile, before i walked forward and towards the car that awaits for me.

I never really told Sage my past, i didn’t need to. All he knew was my parents died in a war between packs, and he seemed to have believed it for awhile. But, he’d never push or constantly ask questions. He’d simply nod and carry on training me.

I let a long sigh out, stepping into it and closing the door behind me. “Where to miss?” The driver asked.

“To King Winter’s manor.”
