Dreams
She could hear her heart pounding as she raced across the forest. She stopped at a clearing ahead. Her figure silhouetted in the moonlight. Click! Bang! Kate jolted awake. Her heart was beating fast, and cold sweats ran down her face. "That felt so real," she whispered to herself. She reached over to check the time. It was only 3:00 in the morning. Finally, after some time, she fell back to sleep until she woke up to the sun shining on her face.
Kate slumped into the kitchen. "Morning, Mom," she yawned. Then Kate realized that her mom wasn't there.
Instead, on the kitchen table was a note that read," Morning, sweetie. I'm sorry I had to run to the office. Bye, Katie. Have a good day at school. Love you!"
Kate sighed. It's been this way for six years. When Dad died, Mom worked more hours to provide for us. She worked from 5:00 in the morning until 10:00 at night. Honestly, I think she works this much because she wants to distract herself from thinking about Dad. After Dad's death, they moved from the small town of Evergreen in Oregon to LA. Kate entered the bus and sat in the back with her friends Paris and Margaret.
" I can't believe we only have two days of school left," Paris exclaimed.
" I know; I can't wait to hit the beach." Replied Margaret.
" I'm Just excited to play beach volleyball." Kate chimed in.
Paris and Margaret have been my friends ever since I moved to LA. They helped me get used to living in a big city like LA. They are great friend, and we practically do everything together. After school, we headed to Paris's house to watch our favorite show for the one-hundredth time. After a while, Kate checked her phone.
"It's getting late. I should get home. See ya tomorrow," Kate announced.
"Bye, stranger!" Paris replied.
"See ya girl!" Margaret said, hugging Kate.
By the time Kate got home, it was 10:00 at night. As she came in through the door, her phone started to ring.
"It's Mom. I wonder what she wants?" Kate thought as she answered the phone.
" Hi sweetie, I have to work late again. I'm sorry!" She said, sighing.
"It's okay, really, mom. I understand. I just got home from Paris's house. I love you!" I said to reassure myself that I was okay.
O, I'll try not to be long if you're sure. Love you. She said as she hung up the phone.
By the time Mom got home, I had gone to bed. I didn't have that weird dream that night. The next day was normal until I got home after school. When I opened the front door, I noticed a strong smell of bacon filling the air.
Mom was in the kitchen cooking." Mom, you're home so early?" I said, puzzled.
She quickly turned from her cooking." Oh, you're finally home!!! As for why I came home so early, I have some news," she chirped.
