Summary

We are nothing. We are something. We are humans. We are sirens. We live underwater, a dome that traps us in the never-ending horror we did not expect coming. We are humans, kids being kids...but something is not right. From time to time, my friends are said to have returned to the surface. But are they really there, or is it some hoax?

Chapter 1 - The Dome

I walk down the long hallway as the water glistens in the light, reflecting off the windows. My feet make light tapping sounds as i jog to the main room. It is where me and my roomates...friends go and gather for breakfast. As i enter i see Melody, a sister to me, she is a short girl with dirty blonde hair and is a year younger than me. She is talking to Nathen, a boy that is thin and does not eat much.

"Hi Melody and Nathen" I said as i ran over to them. Nathen waves at me and Melody said "Did you sleep well, i didn't" She yawned loudly as other kids looked quickly at her and then looked away. "It was decent...but i always wondered, what does the surface look like?" I think deep in thought, when Nathen stood up, his clothes baggy from his weight. "I think the surface is amazing!" He said in a upbeat tone. I love how postive he is, cheering us up when we feel down. "Maybe it will be pretty like what caremama says" Melody hummed to a tune she made up.

Caremama is our caretaker, I don't think of her as a mom though, she gives me vibes that creep me out. When she smiles, her eyes look angry. Caretaker walking in from the outer door and yelled "CONGRATS TO JUSTIN!" Which startled me and Melody. "Justin has been chosen to step foot to the surface." She grinned at the crowd of rowdy childern, i stayed quiet, looking at the cheering childern and Justin smiling...he doesn't know what will happen...huh.

"Let's all give Justin a warm goodbye" she said in a sweetly tone, she must be happy for him to be gone. Caretaker is a woman in her late 30's i would say, she well, takes care of us. I do see her sometimes at night, wandering around long narrow hallways. She acts strange when a kid gets to the surface....they never come back. I get up and walk to the second main room, i go down the small entrance that i can fit in and sit there...wondering.

"Justin was such a good kid...why him" as i stare out in the vast wasteland of childern hang from ropes with a look of horror on the faces, fixed on a shocked expression, hair swaying in the current, then i saw them, the ugly human-fish creatures that collect the dead ones, the "sirens" as they cut the rope and take off with a couple corspes, swimming to the unknown parts of the ocean. Never to be seen again. Will i end up as one of them...i gotta tell the others, but will they think i'm lieing? I put my head between my legs and mouth "help us".
