Prologue

Scratch

It’s hard to start without having a thought of having what to start. Most likely, the beginning of everything great started from simple thoughts that weren’t thoroughly thought through. Wow. If everything was great then the beginning must also be great.

Wrong.

If everything was great, things from the beginning must be twisted and everything. That’s how things work. Unfortunately, great things are usually accepted by the more fortunate and not the less fortunate. Sad thing is that the less fortunate needs to climb up and struggle more in order to stand taller than those who have better lives.

In all honesty, we less fortunate wished to be like one of them. Fortunate… normal… less tragic.

Nobody deserved such fate and nobody wished for tragedy. And yet it happened. Funny thing is that “There is a reason for everything”. Don’t you think it’d be scary if someone died for a reason? Don’t you think it’d be scary if someone’s misfortune happened for a reason?

Don’t you think that it’d be scary if someone was tortured for a reason?

And the answer for that reason was “Because I had free time.”

Doesn’t that make your blood boil?

Doesn’t hearing something like that make you so infuriated that you might punch someone in the face?

We less fortunate people experience those kinds of reasoning to a fault wherein you can’t do anything about it. We feel pain more intense than what you more fortunate ones know.

Because it is tradition, because we can’t burden ourselves with another child, because you are unworthy, because you are ugly, because we don’t love you, because there’s no other option, because we don’t care… because.

Bottom line is that there are questions that are better-off unanswered.

Why the hell am I even saying these things?

Don’t worry, you’ll know soon enough.

Ren: The storyline is great! The author has built a rich and compelling world, I really like the elemental powers and how those apply in combat. Sometimes there are situations where I wonder why the characters don't use their powers in more practical ways outside of combat, like why doesn't Ross use his ...

Another Half

Heika van Walderveen: I had to get used to the style. It’s a lot of switching and getting back into the story of the characters. Also the different timelines were a bit confusing in the beginning. But once you’re used to it, it’s really quite original. The plot is good, but it’s only book 1 (out of 3), but so far so good...
