The Guardians of the Relic

"So, this novel was an interesting read. I liked the atmosphere of the town, the people within it, how most of them knew each other. The relationships between the characters were interesting, Michael's and Emily's or his and Daisy's. I liked Ethan as a character with his cold demeanor, some of his responses were fun, also the reaosn behind Athena sidding with Alkron was nicely portrayed. Also, I have a question, is this book a part of a series? ^^ I liked a couple of characters in here, but I wish the wizards would have been more diferentiated. The few things, that had stood out to me, were that the wizards wore cloaks and Alastair was an older man with a staff, also that Glohone adored Athena. I really wished to learn more about them, their personalities, their powers, their pasts and the whole lore of wizards. What I didn't like about this book, was its writing style. In my opinion, there was too much telling and not enough showing. For instance, there was a scene in the earlier chapters, where it was said that Glohone got irritated at Izdel, did not like him or something similar, before the two met and a conversation between them began. That scene could have worked solely by showing their differences in between dialogue, with their actions (angered eyes, gritted teeth etc.). Besides this scene, there was a lot of telling and not enough showing. A lot of sentences (if they were written from Emily' POV for example) began with she/her and the like and were of similar in length which to me felt a little repetitive. The climax felt rushed to me for some reason. Moreover, I think Zugast's shift was rather abrupt, we did not learn, why did he changed and suddenly needed the power of the pendant. I also would want to learn more about Emily, what are her flaws and her habits. Another thing I could note, is that there were a few a missing commas in the end of dialogue throughout the novel. So in the end, this was an enjoyable quick read. I hope that the author doesn't get discouraged by my critique and keeps on writing.
