Chapter 1

~~Five Year Old Eun-Kyung~~

It has been a week since daddy left mommy to take care of us alone. My mommy, sissy and I are very sad. Mommy is looking for a place to work. Daddy has money to buy us stuff, but mommy doesn’t. She’s been home with us for the week. I’m happy that she’s with us, but she’s still busy. Choonie and I are playing in the living room when someone knocks on the door. Mommy leaves the kitchen and answers the door. It’s a man that I’ve never seen before. Mommy and the man talk. Now mommy looks sad. The man leaves, and mommy goes back to the dining room table. Later, when we were about to go to bed, mommy comes in our room. She hugs me and gives me a kiss on my forehead. Mommy looks like she was crying.

“Mommy? Are you okay?” She nods and gives Choonie a hug and kiss. She smiles and turns on our nightlight. She turns off the lamp, and leaves the room, after saying a quiet goodnight. The next morning, mommy wakes us up early. She says we have to leave. She says that we can take one stuffed animal. I take my blue small stuffed elephant. Choonie takes her stuffed panda. When mommy takes us downstairs, there are people there taking our stuff out of the house. Mommy walks us to our babysitter’s house. Her name is Ali. Mommy takes us in, then leaves back to our house. Later, when mommy comes to get us, we go home. When we get there, there’s nothing but a small table, chairs, and the couch. A few of our toys are on the floor. Mommy feeds us dinner, and we shower, then we go to bed.

~~A month Later~~

Mommy told Choonie and I that we were leaving. She said that we’re going to a new house. She packed all of our clothes and toys. We have to get on a plane. Choonie and I have never been on a plane. We picked out one stuffed animal to take. After we got on the plane, Choonie falls asleep. After, I do as well.

“Eun… Choonie… You have to wake up,” Mommy says, slightly shaking us. I open my eyes to see that it’s dark outside. Mommy get’s her little bag from above us. We get off the plane. Mommy holds our hands. We walk to where our bags are. Mommy gets our bags for us. We walk to a street, right outside the big building. Mommy calls for a bright yellow car. We get in and the person drives us to a small white house. Mommy gets out of the car, and we follow her. We go into the small white house. It’s a living room and a bathroom, along with a small kitchen area. There’s two small beds. One for mommy and one for Choonie and I. I jump onto the bed.

“Hun don’t jump on the bed, please.”

“Sorry mommy,” I respond. My mother smiles and says it’s okay. I walk around the small area. It’s nice and cozy. Mommy says that it’s going to be cold tonight. We put on our pajamas and lay down on the beds. Choonie’s head is on one end, and mine is on the other. We go to bed and, as mommy said, it was cold that night. The next morning we get up and mommy gives us oatmeal. She looks for a job, and again…. No luck. We go on like this for months.
