The Announcement

Katarzyna watched with a heavy heart as her mate took another woman as his Luna. It was a lost cause and attempt on her end as she used the last of her strength to send a message through their feeble link.

Haider accepted it; his own wolf crying out for his true mate in horror and desperation.

You left mate. You coward. You would rather marry this whore than fight for mate!

He turned to look at the assigned wife that his parents had deemed appropriate for him. She batted her eyes up at him, pressing her chest to his side; the intimate contact burning his skin, her lilac scent itching his nose. He craved only one touch, he yearned for only one scent.

He looked into the crowd and caught Katarzyna’s face. He pushed down his sob when he caught the tears that sloped down her cheek.

Please…Anything but that.

There was anger there, but mostly disappointment. He hoped one day that she would be able to forgive him for being so weak.

I’m sorry. I love you. You know I do.

Katarzyna shook her head in anger, Don’t you dare say that when you’re about to do what you’re about to do. If you did, you’d have fought for me. If you did, you wouldn’t be doing this.

A booming voice broke them out of their connection as Alpha Ale patted the boy’s shoulders in congratulations.

“It is with great pleasure to announce the engagement of my son, your future Alpha Haider and his young betrothed, your future Luna Farai.”

Cheers rung in the halls in celebration, but all the two lovers could hear were their wolf’s tiny whimpers, clawing for their own true mate.
