Chapter 1
The day I turned eighteen was June 23. It was the day my life was involuntarily changed, in a way I had never expected.
When I woke up that morning I could smell a fresh cake, probably because Mom would always bake one on my birthday and my siblings. So I got out of bed, still in my pajamas, and walked downstairs.
Today was the day that I was supposed to move to Florida. I currently lived in Georgia, and my parents had a family rule that you have to move out on the day of your eighteenth birthday.
I used to have dreams of going to college and studying to become a veterinarian, but my family didn’t have much money. They were able to afford my sister, Hannah, who was four years older than me to go, and my brother, Lucas to go but not me. Their business that they had started twenty years ago had gone bankrupt and they were now in financial issues. Which meant no college for me.
Luckily my cousin who lived in Tampa, Florida was able to offer me a job at her shop. She was a florist, not the most desirable job, but I couldn’t find anything better, so I accepted. I would start driving to Florida today.
So as I walked downstairs I realized that my life was going to change, and by next week I would be living in Florida and everything would be different. Wow. I really had no idea how much my life would change that day.
