She noticed everything about him. The way his nose scrunched up when he laughed, the way his dark curls bounced when he walked, the way his pearly white teeth lit up the room when he smiled. She noticed the little things too. How distant he was when he was upset, how his face flushed bright pink when someone made him angry. It was these little things that brought joy to her day. Getting to see every side of him made her heart swell. He opened up to her about things he never told anyone. She was the one who he shared his secrets with. The one he felt safe with. When they were together, he could be himself. And there was never any judgement. But in that moment, as she watched his scrunched-nose laugh, she felt a slight pang in her chest when she saw his arms wrapped tightly around another girl. Tears welled up in her eyes, and her heart pounded. She should have told him earlier. Maybe if she told him how she felt then, he wouldn’t be with her now. She had nothing against the other girl. Nothing except for one thing.
That girl had the boy of her dreams. The one she had fallen in love with all those years ago. And it was crushing her inside.
