Chapter 1

Lucas observed his opponent as they circled each other. He liked to study who he was facing before making his move. He was at a Dojo training with two other kids his age.

“Aren’t you going to make your move?” Ethan questioned grinning. “Or are you scared that I am going to beat you?”

A young girl who was standing away from the match rolled her eyes. “It is you that should be afraid Ethan. You know better than to challenge Lucas. He’s never been defeated. It’s impossible.”

Ethan scoffed. “Whatever Rowan.” He twisted back to Lucas. “Come on. Hurry and make your move.”

Lucas smirked and narrowed his eyes. “Why don’t you go first?”

Ethan sniggered. “I knew that you were scared. All right big baby.” He squeezed his hands into a fist. “Let me put you out of your misery.” Ethan ran forward and threw his fist towards Lucas.

Lucas dodged it effortlessly and bent down to kick Ethan’s legs out from underneath him. Ethan fell quickly to the ground, and Lucas found his opportunity to climb onto Ethan. “I win.”

Ethan groaned loudly in frustration. “Fine. You win.”

Lucas smirked as he stood from the ground helping Ethan up as he did so. “Better luck next time.”

Ethan laughed as he held up his hand for Lucas to shake. “I don’t know how you do it, Lucas. You have a gift.”

“I could have told you that,” Rowan called out.

Lucas grinned and took Ethan’s hand in his. “I don’t know what it is. I guess I was born to do this. It feels right.”

“Rowan.” A gruff masculine voice called from behind her. Rowan turned and grinned widely when she saw her Father standing by the entrance.

“My Father is here.” She turned back to Ethan and Lucas. “I’ll see you both on Monday.” Lucas nodded as he watched her leave.

“I better get home to my folks as well,” Ethan commented. “I’ll see you later.”

“Yeah. I should be going as well.” Lucas walked out of the Dojo and over to his bike and waved at Ethan before leaving.
