A Book guides the main character, Matt, through an apocalyptic world he was born into and must try to survive. With a prominent psychological base and centre, this apocalyptic tale has two main characters. Firstly Matt, born a few decades after the day of The Event when our world disappeared. Only one percent of the twelve billion people on the planet survived. The second character is a book, which Matt finds after prophesising to do so as a young man, discovered in a ruined building covered with layers of ashdust, a combination of ash and dust that fell for years after The Event. The Book contains philosophical observations and teachings that guide Matt through the dangers of this new world. It also encourages and assists him to embark upon the first long journey anyone has undertaken away from their fledgling Community (Chicago South), to discover what lies beyond their daily fight for survival.
