Chapter One
I opened my eyes to find myself in a white room that reminded me of a hospital room. For some reason, I could not remember why I was there. I was wearing a white hospital gown, which made me think that I had recently gotten into an accident that caused me to lose my memory. I managed to pull myself out of the bed, although my head was pounding. I stumbled along, trying to get to the door that was across from my bed. Next to the door, I noticed a clipboard hanging that had had my information on it.
Name: Avery Wilson Sex: Female Age: 14 Description: White, brown hair, and black eyes. As I read the clipboard, my name came familiar to me again. I stumbled back as the door opened, almost hitting me.
“Oh, hi sweetheart! Sorry I didn’t mean to frighten you!” The lady in the white science coat said, “ I just want to ask you if you wanted to come out to meet the other children!” I was about to ask her what I was doing here, but I decided to wait and just nodded my head. She then smiled and motioned me to come with her. I did what she said and followed her throughout the halls, passing more rooms, until we finally reached an odd room. The room was white like the other ones, but this one had padding on the walls and the floor was made of grass.
There were about five other children. Two of the boys were leaning against the back wall, talking. In the middle of the room, two of the girls were on the floor, also talking. Before I had a chance to look around any further, one of the girls in the group waved me over. I walked over to her and tried to smile, hiding the fact that my heart was beating a million mile an hour.
“Hi! I am Hannah!” She smiled like we weren’t in a completely unknown place which confused me. I studied her pale face, bright blue eyes, and how she was twirling her blonde, curly hair with her finger. I guess I was staring for too long because Hannah then broke my train of thought.
“And you are?” She said after assuming that I was going to open up to her. I then froze, my mouth seemed to be glued shut.
’I...I am....U...Um...Avery…” I stuttered, then began to feel my cheeks glow red. The girl Hannah was talking to before I came then began to smile.
“I am Leah…” She introduced quietly. We all went quiet as we noticed the light dimming. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a white screen moving down from the ceiling. Everyone watched as the screen then portrayed a picture of the our planet, Uriona.
“Our planet, Uriona, has been here for generations.” The narrator began. “On our beautiful planet, one beautiful country was formed. This country went un-named. It was ruled by two people. King Hikaru and Queen Miki.” The slide then turned into a picture of a beautiful woman and handsome man. The woman had silky, long, blonde hair. She was wearing an elegant light purple gown, and a diamond tiara on her head. The man had brown hair that was slicked back neatly. He was wearing a red shirt, and had many ribbons pinned to his shirt.
“The people in Uriona slowly began to lose control. With the leaders both in one place, solving all of the chaos everywhere else in the world was near to impossible. So, the leaders came up with a plan. They would separate. Queen Miki would live and manage one half, and King Hikaru on the other. This worked extremely well for a small while. No one lives forever, so when they passed, a new king and queen needed to rise to the throne. The two new leaders were very young. King Anki and Queen Rina. They were both only 15 years old. Being so young, they had many controversies on how the country should run. This resulted in the country splitting up into the two countries we know today. Daleori and Maliki. King Anki chose Daleori and Queen Rina chose Miliki. Sadly, both rulers wanted more land. This resulted in a war that got more and more extreme. This is the war we are in today. King Anki and Queen Rina are both 45 years old, today. The war may still be going on, but here in Daleori, we will keep you safe.” The voice then stopped. On the screen, words popped up that read, “Welcome to S.I.P!”. The screen became white and the lights turned back on. As the screen slowly retracted back into the ceiling, a lady in a white science coat came into the room and asked us to gather around her. I walked towards her quietly as the boys ran and Leah and Hannah began to chat behind me.
“Hi everyone, I’m Dr. Redburn! I know you all are confused, and that’s why I’m here! You were all located because of your special markings on your left shoulders!” I then lifted up my sleeve to find a star-shaped marking.
“That mark indicates that you have supernatural powers, but that we will discuss later. For now however, I will tell you the story of how you all got here. Most of you were asleep at this time, but you and your families were being taken by S.I. P. or the Supernatural Individuals Program. This is the program you are in right now. In this program, you are kept here as safety from the war. This war is the Daleori and Maliki, the two halves of this planet. In this process, they make you go through a process that erases your memory. This way, you won’t have the knowledge of what events took place before you were taken here. This will prevent you from running back. Don’t be worried, the only people who ran away were afraid because they did not know where they were. ” I then remembered that my head was pounding when I woke up. That must have been the poison. I glanced at the other children’s faces and they seemed to be very intrigued and also confused at the fact we were taken. My hand then shot up.
“Yes?” Dr. Redburn replied with a questioned look on her face.
“Why weren’t we returned to our family?” I wondered. Her glance went from my face straight to the ground, as if I had told her I had murdered someone. Everyone else seemed to ponder the same question, and was also awaiting her response.
“There is no family you shall return to at the moment…” She stated in a low tone, still looking down, “They were all taken, and used to assist soldiers in the war. Even though your parents don’t have magical elements, their memory was also erased. That way they will not be enraged that you were taken from them.” The room then went dead silent. Everyone was trying to comprehend the fact that we won’t be returning home for a while, and that everyone we once loved will not be able to remember us.
“I know it is confusing, but that is what King Anki wants.” King Anki? Daleori? I don’t remember any of these things! I thought to myself. Suddenly, a man came bursting through the door that looked like he was in his late 40’s. All focus was then shifted to this man that wore the same coat as the lady, but unlike her red hair and blue eyes, he had black hair and brown eyes.
“My apologies for interrupting, Dr. Redburn, but they informed me that it is indeed my turn to speak to them.” She then shook her head and quietly exited the room. He then took a head-count and smiled.
“Hello everyone, I’m going to introduce myself! I am Dr. Colesin! My job is to teach you fighting techniques!” The room then exploded with chatter.
“I thought we were here for safety!” The boy with black hair and blue eyes commented.
“Why, yes. But, that doesn’t mean that dangers don’t exist. This is just a precaution that King Anki asked for us to take.” Dr. Colesin answered. The boy with black hair nodded his head, but did not seem to be satisfied.
“Now, I’m going to let you all chat to each other, but you will be stopped after a while to prepare for bed.” And with that, Dr. Colesin slipped out the door. Everyone began to introduce each other, but I decided to step away. I did not feel like talking, I just wanted to sleep. All of the other children seemed happy, like everything was okay. I just could not shake the feeling off. Something definitely did not sit right with me. I couldn’t even remember the name of the planet I live on! Uriona, was it? I then snuck away, to a far corner where no one would bother me. I just lay my head down and let my thoughts run wild. There was too many new and confusing things that I needed to process. Sadly, this did not last for more than five minutes. The boy with black hair and blue eyes sat next to me.
“Hi, I’m Aiden…” He told me quietly as I kept my head down.
“H...Hi.” I said back, hoping that he would go away.
“Are you okay?” He asked me as he softly touched my shoulder with the mark. Suddenly, it began to glow. What was wrong with me? Despite this, I covered my glowing mark and answered his question.
“I don’t want to be here…” I said, finally raising my head.
“What? Why would you not want to be held captive in a unfamiliar place that is supposedly ‘keeping you safe’ even though we had to erase our memory for it. ” He said sarcastically.
“Now that you are actually awake,” He continued, “I’m Aiden. What’s your name?” I rolled my eyes I replied.
“I’m Avery.” I told him as he pretended to look confused.
“Avery? For some reason, that name sounds familiar...” He then shrugged.
“That’s weird.” I responded.
“Are you okay?”
“Not really...I barely know anything anymore. I don’t know where I came from, who my parents were. It’s all gone…” I explained to him.
“Yeah, I don’t know who King Anki and Queen Rina are, but they need to work things out because wars aren’t the answer.” I nodded then decided to meet everyone else. Considering we will be here for a while I decided to get to know everyone. I then got up and joined the group, and Aiden followed. I introduced myself to the boy with light brown hair and blue eyes that Aiden was hanging out with. I got to learn that his name was Cody. He was very cheerful, and very nice. After a while, we were told that it was time to go to bed. I then started to head back to my room, but I realized that Aiden was in front of me heading the same way. As if on cue, he turned around and looked at me.
“Avery? Are you following me back?” He said smirking. I smiled back, then sprinted to my door and tried to open it, but it was locked. Aiden, still smirking, walked slowly to his door. Almost as if to mock me. He then proceeded to study it, and finally he put his thumb on the little machine to the left to the door. It stood out of the ground and had a screen at the end. Surprisingly, the door swung open. He looked at me and then continued to step into the room. Once he was gone, I imitated his actions and the door swung open just like his. I blushed as I went into the room, got on the neat white bed, and tucked myself in. How was I supposed to learn how to fight if I can barely open a door? Thoughts whirled around in my head, making me dizzy. As they overwhelmed me, I closed my eyes and let myself slowly drift into a peaceful sleep.
