Regrets

I wake up groaning, blinking in the harsh light as I smack my alarm on my nightstand. I stumble out of bed and make my way to my closet, reaching blindly for my glasses along the way. Putting them on, I begin searching for an outfit for that day. I silently cheer when I find my favorite shirt, unwrinkled and clean, in my dresser. Putting it on, I contemplate whether or not I would wear leggings.

"BUS IS PASSING!" My mom calls up the stairs. I pull on the leggings and run down the stairs, almost tripping in the process.

"Don't forget your backpack!" She throws it out the door at me, but it's too late. The bright yellow bus is at the end of the street, turning onto the next road. I sigh loudly and trudge back into my house. I whip my phone out and call my contact on speed dial.

"Missed it again?" My friend answers the phone as he always does.

"Yep. Sorry, Matt." He sighs before answering.

"It's ok, Isa. I'll be there in 5 minutes." I smile and hang up. I love my friends.

"Matt picking you up?" My dad asks on his way out the door. I nod, lost in my thoughts. He chuckles and yells good bye to my mother.

"Parisa! Did you miss the bus again?"

"Yes, mother. Matt's picking me up."

"One of these days that boy's gonna realize he's too good for you," she mutters. I pretend not to hear her and look out the window next to the door. I smile when I see my favorite car in the world pull up in my driveway-a beat up maroon Kia K4. I rush out, sling my bag over my shoulder, and quickly climb into the passenger seat.

"Hey, slowpoke." His voice is low and gravelly, as it usually is in the morning.

"I prefer procrastinator, thank you very much." I cross my arms and try not to smile.

"Whatever you say, Paris." We pull out of the driveway and head for school.

"Thanks for driving me....again." I chew on my lip. My mom was right. He was too good for me.

"No problem. Why wouldn't I drive my best friend?"

"Maybe cause your best friend misses the bus every other day and doesn't have a car of her own?"

"That's not your fault. The car thing, not the bus thing. It's completely your fault for missing the bus." I snicker as he smirks at me.

"You'd think as a junior I'd finally learn how to wake up early."

"Yeah, you'd think." A smile plays on his lips. We sit in silence for a while, trapped in our own thoughts as we park in the school's lot.

"Did you study for the Psychology test today?" He gets out of the car, Matt waiting for me to untangle myself from the seat belt.

"Umm, maybe?" I say, with an inflection in my voice. He sighs and grabs my backpack from me.

"Hey!" I protest.

"Uh uh," he wags a finger at me. "I'm a gentleman and you can't stop me." I laugh and reluctantly let him take my bag.

"Did you study?" I ask teasingly.

"What do you think?" I already knew the answer. He may look like a jock, abs, muscles, a great jawline, but he was a nerd at heart. That's what I loved about him. He didn't care about girls, even though they flung themselves at him. He cared about his studies and becoming an engineer.

We enter the school, Matt walking me to my locker before going with his friends.

"See ya in Psych." He flashes me a smile and saunters down the hall, making me laugh at his walk. Bri and Ariana find me putting my lunch in my locker.

"Did you ride with Matt again?" Bri asks, grinning mischievously. She and Ariana are the only ones who know I have a slight crush on Matt. I nod, blushing and Ariana hip checks me.

"You go, girl!" I grin at them, glad my friends were supportive.

"I have to finish a project in first hour," Bri says after checking her watch. "I'll see you guys at lunch!" She waves and takes off towards her class.

"So, what'd you and Matt talk about?" Ariana walks with me down the hall.

"Um, the usual... how I'm slow in the morning, if I studied for Psych, how he's a gentleman."

"How'd you get to that topic?"

"He stole my backpack."

"Oh, makes sense." Ariana grins and pulls me into a locker bay.

"What's up? You look like your up to no good," I glance cautiously at my friend.

"Invite him to my party tomorrow night."

"Since when are you having a party, Ariana?"

"Since today. My mom said it was okay if I had a few friends over."

"Your mom doesn't know Matt."

"She knows you." I look around to see I anyone is listening, then ask:

"How many people have you invited?"

"You, Bri, Alice, Dean, George, and hopefully Matt."

"That's not a lot of people....I'll ask him." Ariana claps her hands and hugs me.

"You won't regret it." We go our separate ways to class, promising to see each other at lunch. I'm not so sure Ariana is right. I have a lot of regrets.
