Crash Landing
It was another long day leading into another lonely night. Kara was just getting home from a stressful day at the nursing home. She loved the people there, they were mostly just lonely people in the winter of their lives that wanted nothing more than someone to talk to.
Today Mrs. Connor, one of the sweetest ladies at the home, had mistaken her for her daughter that hadn't been by in years. Even though she was the completely different body style with an average height of 5'5 and in fairly good shape. There was hardly any fat on her, not to mention she had different looks with her long auburn hair she styled curled down to her lower back and emerald green eyes. Still she stayed with her for as long as she could and tried to relieve her loneliness if only for an hour or two. But that meant she had to stay late to finish her duties and was now getting home after dark and completely exhausted.
Kara grabbed the groceries she had bought for tonight's dinner from the passenger seat and got out of her '05 focus and walked up the drive to her shoebox of a house. It wasn't much but at least it was hers. As soon as the door opened her little calico ran to greet her meowing insistently that her dinner was late.
"I hear you, I hear you. Give me a moment and I'll get your dinner." She put the bags on the counter and gave Hemi a scratch on her head. She had chosen the name Hemi since she was a Hemingway cat with the cute little mittens for paws. She grabbed the cat food and filled Hemi's bowl. "You're always happy to see me aren't you precious?" Hemi looked up and mewed in response then turned her attention back to her dinner.
Kara sighed and went to making herself some food. It wasn't one of her favorite tasks since it seemed kind of pointless to make a whole meal for just her. She hadn't always been by herself. Growing up she was close to her mom and got along pretty well with her younger brother. Her dad wasn't in the picture but that was pretty common in their part of town. She missed her mom and brother sometimes but they had died around five years ago now when she had just turned 20 and about to start her junior year at college. She never did get to go to that junior year or any other one after that. It had taken everything she had to not completely lose herself. And she had to sell everything off to cover the second mortgage her mom had taken out on the house to pay to send her to college.
That was five years ago and now it was just her and Hemi. She was doing pretty well all things considered. She was lucky to fall into a decent paying job at the nursing home so she wasn't struggling. It was the loneliness that ate her up. Every night she would stare out her window up at the moon and stars and wish for a hero that would come and rescue her from this mundane life. But heros only exist in fairytales and if there's one thing she knew it's that life is no fairytale.
Kara finished her meal and went to put her dishes in the sink when she saw a bright light and heard a loud crash from outside. Hemi jumped a foot in the air and let out a yowl before running to hide. Kara grabbed the shotgun she kept in the closet and went up to the door and peaked outside. There was a strange glowing and some fire in the distance.
'Well if someone's hurt I can't just stand by and do nothing.' She grabbed her jacket and threw it over her shoulders as she walked outside. As she got closer to the crash she could she that it wasn't like any kind of car or plane for that matter that she had ever seen before. It was triangular shaped with a domed top and so sleek and reflective it seemed to disappear into the background.
As she was taking in the sight and trying to figure out what she was seeing, part of the dome started to open like a door and she could see a shadow of what looked like a man against the light. As the shadow started walking closer she could see that it was a man, at least he looked like one.
But this was like no man Kara had ever seen before. He was huge, and not just because he looked to be over six feet tall. You could see every muscle on him and all of them defined and rock hard. His skin was a beautiful tan color and his hair was black as night. But the most striking thing about him were his eyes. They were the most brilliant blue that she had ever seen, they looked like deep pools that had no bottom and right now they were looking at her with confusion and something else she couldn't quite place.
