Chapter 1
Yvette Gray screamed as the pointed blade pierced through her back. Her husband, world-renowned neurosurgeon Alexander Gray, had already bled to death next to her. Her shrill whistle bled through the eerie silence of the woods. Nobody would hear her scream. Nobody would be with her in her final moments before her death. Nobody but her very killer. As the knife plunged deeper and deeper in her skin, Yvette could feel the blade scraping her rib bone. She could feel the ribs pushing against her skin. She was fighting every urge not to swipe the knife from her killer’s hands and stab him back. But Yvette was losing blood quickly and she was going to die any minute. As she took her final breaths, she forced the image of her children, Lillian and Benjamin, into her mind. As she took her final breath, she said, in a hoarse whisper, “Take care of the children, Lord. Just take care of them.”
