You Woke Me
I think you just woke me up
My chin rested on your chest as I looked at you with your arms around me
All I could think was how with you, I could do what I feared
You hold me and you test me and you give me my fight back
The fight that says I’m alive and I’m here to enliven some flames
You push me to live, to feel, to touch, to laugh, to share, to engage
When you laid there thinking about if you did well,
I laid there thinking that I enjoyed that with you
You breathed warmth into the gaps in me that I had laid to rest
Now my mind thrills with the possibilities of how I may behave and feel freely
While you sleep soundless next to me
All I can think is how
You just woke me up.
