Chapter 1
Ari
Hope’s hope started coming down from it’s high as Ben made his final choice. Her, or Lily.
He looked at both of us in turn...
‘Ari!’
...as he picked his soulmate and wife. He opened his kissable mouth and..
‘Aribelle Martinez King! Come downstairs this instant!’ I rolled my eyes even though mum was downstairs and couldn’t see me, and put my favourite book down. I was team Hope all the way, I mean, they are soulmates.
I stood up and skipped down the stairs. I ate to much chocolate so I was peppy. Much to my distaste.
I walked into the living room ready to yell at my mum for interupting my reading when I saw an old lady sitting on the couch smiling to bright. She looked to be about thirty. So old.
‘Aribelle King?’
‘Depends,’ I say looking at my mum but I nod anyway. ‘And it’s Ari.’
‘Well, Miss King,’ I glare at her.
‘You have been picked alongside other wolves in a chance to be part of one of the three main packs, you will be in classes and tested for the year, and if you pass, they rest of your school life. You will be attending the prestigious Moonlight High.’ When I look at mum she has an ecstatic smile on her face.
By the way, we’re rogues. The only reason we’re rogues is because mum was shunned by her parents when she did not except her mate.
And it was near impossible that rogues were picked to attend Moonlight high.
The Moonlight pack is one of the three most powerful packs in history. Alongside the Seaside Pack and the Mother nature pack. The school is on Moonlight land so that’s what it’s called, really, all three packs go there. But one person gets nominated each fifteen years from all the wolves, all paid as well. Even though mum and I are technically some of the richest people ever.
No matter what I say, this is an amazing opportunity.
‘You will be picked up tomorrow for your first day of the school year.’
Later that day everyone from the ranch was throwing me a going away party.
That’s right, a ranch. My mum’s older sister moved away from our pack soooooo many years ago, found her mate, and moved her family here. All of our grandparents aunts and cousins alike are here.
The local band was playing on the stage and I was dancing with all of the kids. They are so much more fun to dance with then the adults.
Slowly I made my way to our stables. My horse, Star, was special, like me.
She was completely white but her main was a cobalt blue and plum purple. She has been with me since I was born. Here’s the thing, she’s a magic horse so she will never die of old age. Star is still as much of an amazing young horse she was ten years ago.
I saddled her up and got ready to ride. We trotted outside and slowly went at a really fast speed.
I flopped onto my bed. The party had wrapped up hours ago and I was exhausted. I couldn’t wait until tomorrow.
The next day I got ready to leave but barely getting out of bed.
For my flight I picked out light wash jeans and a white crop top with my black vans. I put on some lipgloss and skipped on the rest of the make up because I didn’t really need it.
I kissed my mother goodbye and headed to the bus that was waiting for me. My bags were already taken care of.
Once we pulled out of the street I looked around so far I was with three other girls who were all asleep. I plugged in my earbuds and watched the scenery zoom by.
This was going to be a long semester.
