Dog Of Pompeii
Dear Ally it was August 23 it was a good morning. It was sunny and bright outside, clear and Mount Vesuvius was quiet. Just smoke that’s always there though. It helps us with keeping track of the the weather. It was more smoke than usually. I went to the bakery, and everyone was talking that Mount Vesuvius was going to erupt again. Some people are saying it won’t erupt again. Everyone in the town was arguing about it. I didn’t answer anyone who asked me. After I left everyone was still arguing I didn’t care. After a while everyone started not to care, except 3 people. Two men and one woman who just came to Pompeii. One man said “they will be no more eruptions in Pompeii.” The women said “there will be,because look how much smoke there is.” This man Bill was the oldest man in town. He was 89 years old. Bill said “there will not be another eruption in Pompeii, because when that eruption came last time it was a dud. No more eruptions.”The women said “ if it was a dud there will be no smoke.” the other man said “I have to agree with Miss Willmore on this one.” Miss Willmore said “ thank you Joe.” The argument was over everyone left. I went back to my house and ate what I got from the bakery, it was a raisin cake.
Today it is August 24 it was a early cool morning. It looked like the people were wrong about Mount Vesuvius, it was peaceful. When I left my house, there was a dog standing right outside my door! He was a small dog he was brown and white. The dog looked like it was a stray. He was skinny and dirty. I said “I’m going to keep you,and name you Andy.” the dog barked, it seemed like Andy liked his name. Later in the afternoon when the sun was setting, the smoke from the volcano was getting thicker. It was getting harder to breathe. The smoke was stinging my eyes. The hot gas going down my throat felt like hot tea burning inside my throat. From a distance I heard a big booming sound. It shook my house and I realized the volcano erupted! People were screaming and running, Andy and I started running as well. We heard mothers and fathers yelling for their children. All the people were running to the water. Andy and I followed the crowd.
We dove into the water, Andy and I felt the relief from the cold water. I was holding on to Andy for dear life. Andy was a puppy and my best friend, he was more than just a dog. We swam and found a boat it had ten other people inside it. We were cold and wet. We still saw people running for their lives .Andy was hiding under my arm shaking and scared. Everyone was watching buildings collapsing from a distance. People were getting burned by the hot gas.I heard sounds of babies crying.Children calling for their parents. One child was crying, he looked to be about five years old, he was hiding under a house. The volcano hit the house, and it collapsed. With the child under it. Even though we are cold ,wet and fearful we know that our God is always with us and helped to keep Andy and I alive. It was dark and the water looked like it was black ice.It is 11:11 pm. I made a wish. That we will survive. One of the people on the boat called out a name “Evelyn.” it sounded like a familiar voice. It was my mother! I never knew she made it out alive I thought she was dead. I was grateful that she was alive but I never knew that she was here. Her name was Rallo Brightfield. Everyone just called her All. I remember her when I was five. She has red hair, pale white skin and always clothing that made me giggle. I loved her so much, then she just left and never came back. until now. The smoke is now cleared and It was a cold morning, we were all tired, and hungry .We went back to Pompeii to begin a new life.
