Royalty. Most girls would dream of sitting on a golden throne with a silver crown. Having several butlers, maids, and servants to do whatever they want. A whole kingdom looking up to their queen, bowing down with utter respect and adoration. A beautiful palace for the queen and her king. They can keep on dreaming, but nothing more was ever going to happen. All those fairy tales and Disney movies haven't done them any favors. All those "happily ever afters" and carefree lives were nothing but lies created to cover the public image of royalty all around the world.
My job was to expose the royal family for what they really were. That was one of the may reason I loved my work. I was able to knock some sense into those love-struck and delusional people of the public who adored the royal family. Now don't get me wrong, I have those moments when I fangirl over the royals in one of their million dashing suits at a royal event. But what I love more is to spill tea on the royals. The James Charles and Tati Westbrook tea was gold and went viral while it lasted. My job was to find similar tea or just any tea about the royal family and spill it. Simple. But it's been getting harder. The royal family is closed off, obviously, but it usually doesn't take me longer than a week to get some news.
My most recent published tea was about Queen Ambrosia and her mistress. Ya, apparently the precious Queen is lesbian. At least according to my sources... Anyway, the news has been spreading like wildfire but everyone wants proof. I'm pretty sure that's why I feel like there are more guards around the Queen's palace. The Queen has been refusing to acknowledge the news. I'm pretty sure she could find me easily, if she wanted to. However, I think she's waiting for my next move. I've been waiting for more than two months for any proof from my sources. I can't wait longer because either the hype will die out or people will lose interest and accuse me of lying. My job was to spread the hidden truth and the last thing I wanted was for the public to call me a liar.
If I wanted proof, I was gonna have to get it myself. I needed to get a photo or video of the Queen with her mistress. They may have distanced themselves just for safety, but it's been two months. Everyone slips up. It may sound impossible to get into the palace, especially with all the extra guards, but I've done more. After all, I am Paris Vixen. I am one hell of a force to reckon with. And tonight, I'm making my move.
"Agent Tea, respond! Agent The Best on the line. I repeat, I'm Agent The Best. Over." My earpiece blasted and I looked around me for the 20th time.
"Why am I Agent Tea, but you get to be Agent The Best? That's so not fair!" I heard a groan from the earpiece. I swear, I'm worried that I'm not the only one who can hear his annoyingly screechy voice.
"Because it's better than saying, 'Paris, answer me! It's Kayden!' That is so unprofessional! We have to make sure no one knows our identities if they happen to hack this system."
"And if they did hack the system, wouldn't they have found out who we are by now? Because you just said our names. And you didn't answer why you get to be Agent The Best! As far as I know, you're not the one who's actually sneaking into the royal palace! You're just the tech guru helping me from your mom's basement!" I was basically whisper-yelling at this point. I crossed my legs and brought the book closer to my face to make it seem like I was actually reading. My butt was starting to hurt from sitting on the old bench. I spotted what must have been the 134th earthworm on the bench. I slid to my left, away from the new worm.
"Hey! I'm also helping! I mean, somewhat. I'll be telling you where the guards are and stuff! Kay will just be telling you which way to go." I heard a new voice through my earpiece. Hayden. Hayden and Kayden are my best friends and they happen to be twins. They're both annoying, but I can trust them to always get the job done. And no, they are not my sources.
"You're both in your mom's basement! I don't see either of you breaking into the palace with me, eh?" I heard complete silence before Hay's laughter filled my ears.
"Fine! But that's just because we don't wanna go to royal prison!" This kid laughs at literally everything. I rolled my eyes. I cleared my throat when I noticed the men sitting across from me. All of them were wearing suits. What an odd choice for visiting a park. I glanced down at myself. I was wearing a black t-shirt and red yoga pants with my white sneakers. I had my beige brown hair in a messy bun and I didn't bother with putting on some makeup. Calling the men suspicious was a huge understatement. They did not fit in with the background and they didn't seem to even try to blend in. They obviously knew each other, but they were all siting at the edge of their seats and staring away. I bet they're here to take me out.
"Fine, then. We'll just be calling each other our real names then. Uh, killjoy. Whatever. Pear, are you ready?" Kay's voice rang through my earpiece and I looked up at the men to see if they heard anything, but they all kept staring away. I can't reply here, not in front of them. I casually got up, brushed the dirt and earthworms off my legs and stretched my hands. I closed the book, shoving it in my black backpack. The backpack held my camera, phone, snacks, emergency self-defense weapons, water, wallet, and now, my fake book. I awkwardly smiled at the men and started walking to a nearby trail. I needed to make it seem like I was in a call or something, so I didn't look like a mad woman talking to herself or raise any unwanted attention to myself from the Queen's men.
"Pear? You there?" Hay's voice got my attention. Pear, ya, such a stupid nickname for Paris. I sped up when I heard new sets of footsteps behind me. My bag was slung on my shoulder. I opened the bag discreetly and held onto my dagger as I walked.
"Guys, I'm being followed. I think. I'm gonna head into my car and try to lose em." I whispered into my earpiece. I was heading towards the parking lot.
"Flip! You should just go to that diner near the park! Stay there, order a milkshake and make it seem like you're waiting for you date or something." Hayden can be so stupid at times.
"I'm supposed to look like I have a date? I'm wearing yoga pants and sneakers!" I heard them sigh. I casually looked to my right, making it seem like I was admiring the swan fountain in the middle of the lake. From the corner of my eyes, I could see one of the suit guys and another man. And I gotta admit, the new guy is hot to say the least. I could barely make out Hay and Kay discussing who was gonna bring me my clothes. Then, Kay cleared his throat.
"We'll send Jade to get you your clothes. Just... run. Not like away from the people who're following you, but like... running for exercise." I rolled my eyes before I started jogging. If I started running out of nowhere, I'll gain more unwanted attention. I'm gonna do a lap around the lake and if they're not off my tail by then, I'm heading to my car.
As soon as I reached halfway around the lake, I heard commotion from behind me. There was a couple arguing with each other. Both of them were pushing each other out of pure rage. There were a few people trying to break up the fight, but I saw movement at the corner of my eye. I turned around quickly and notice the little girl at the edge of the lake with a doll
"No! Sweetie, come back!" I yelled to the girl, who turned to me, surprised. Out of the sudden shock, she took one step back and fell into the lake. I immediately sprint to the lake. I threw my sneakers off while I ran. I hope someone realized what was happening! I dived into the ice-cold lake, and I could barely make out the red hair of the little girl. She was struggling and she clenched her doll. I swam as fast as I could and wrapped my arm under the girl's shoulders. She's unconscious, I have to hurry the fuck up. I couldn't see much because the lake was so fucking dirty. I just swam in the general direction I know I came from. I can't hold my breath longer. I kept pushing myself and swimming to the land. I can kind of see a solid line in front of me. It's gotta be land. I feel my feet hit dirt and I know I'm here. I fell on my knees, but I had the little girl wrapped in my arms. There was a crowd of people crowded around us and the couple were making their way to the front.
"Someone! Give her CPR and call 911!" I managed to scream at the top of my lungs before I lost consciousness. The last thing I felt was the moist ground on my cheek.
