Lotus rose

It was the year 200, many people screaming. Some badly injured. What was worst of it all, I had to survive the fire. It was not an ordinary fire, but a fire that was so bad that I almost didn’t make it. I was only five, only my brothers and I made it through the fire. Not all of us though. My parents made a sacrifice which broke our promise with eachother. We promised we would stay together until we all grew up.

I’m sitting at my desk in my room. Since we live in a cottage and there was only two rooms, I got the smaller room then my brothers. There are wooden floors with a blue with red patterned carpet. There is a white painted wooden closet against the right wall.

My bed is against the side, where the window is, which is on the same side as my closet. Since there isn’t a lot of electricity, I’m using candle light to do my work. There is a knock on my door and I see it’s my brother, Rainer.

“Hey”

“Hey, is dinner ready yet?”

“Not yet”

“Oh. Well I’ll help when I finish my homework”

“Okay”

He leaves and I continue doing my geometry homework. I put my pencil down and head to the kitchen. I see my other brother is near the stove, waiting for something.

“Hey, is an omelette okay?”

“Yea. What are you gonna put in it?”

“Some peppers, onions and some spices”

“Okay”

“I thought you have geo homework”

“I’m deciding to take a break”

“Okay”

He finished cooking the omelette. Rainer comes in and I see he is covered in blood. Leo looks at Rainer and they communicate in sign language. I stand there a bit confused, but shrug. I head to the cabinets and grab three white painted glass plates with some napkins and forks and knives.

I set the table and grab three glasses, placing them on the side of each plate. The table is a wooden table with a white and red checked table cloth. Since we don’t have chairs, which Rainer needs to build some, we kneel instead. The kitchen floor is a checkered tile and the walls are a light blue color. Leo heads to the table and place the pan in the middle of the table.

“You might want to clean up afterwards Rainer”

“I will”

I see Rainer washes off the blood off his arm and face. There’s still some on his clothes. We all sit at the table and start pray. After pray, we begin eating in peace.

“How was school?”

“Alright. I mean a girl tried to pick a fight with me for some odd reason”

“Well what did you do?”“Why does it matter to you?”

“I don’t want to see my brothers half dressed”

He raises an eyebrow at me as he heads to get a mug.

“Go put a shirt on”

“You know you’re used to it”

I grunt and sit down. I begin eating as the puppy looks at me.

“You can’t have any. It’s not good for you”

It tilts its head as it looks at me.

“Anyways, did you finish all your homework?”

“Yea”

I begin eating and see Rainer comes in. He rubs his eye as he heads to make coffee. The puppy barks and I pat it’s head. I finish and get up to put the dishes in the sink. I head to go change as I hear my two brothers talking.

As I get to my room, the puppy follows me and bumps into my leg.

I get to my room and begin to change. Once I changed, I head to the living room. The puppy bumps into my leg. Rainer heads to his room and Leo comes to sit down.

“You know it’s Friday, right?”

“I’m gonna go to the shelter to drop him off”

“Okay. Be safe”

“I will”

I pick the puppy up and wrap it in a blanket. I head outside and hop in my bike. I place the puppy in the basket and start riding to the shelter. Once I got to the shelter, I pick the puppy up and head inside. The lady greets me and smiles.

“How May I help you?”

“Do you have room for this puppy?”

I show her the puppy and she grabs it. It barks at her as she pats it’s head.

“Yes. Is that all?”

“Yes ma’am”

“Okay. Thank you and have a nice day”

“You too”

I head out and hop on my bike. I start riding back home as I feel someone is following me.

I continue riding until someone came up next to me.

“Well hello little lady”

I ignore the person as I continue riding. He rides ahead of me and stops as I make a quick stop.

“Now don’t ignore me. Let’s not start anything”

“You sound like a pedophile”

He chuckles as he hops off his bike. I ride around him, but some other men stop me short.

“Grab her”

“No. Leave me alone”

I hop off and run towards my house. One man runs after me and tries to grab my arm, but I manage to run fast enough for me to be close to home. I continue running as someone tackles me to the ground. They pick me up and throw me on their shoulders.

“Let’s go before you cause any more trouble”

I think of the only way to get my brother’s attention. I end up screaming and the guy drops me as he holds his ears. I run as the door opens and Rainer appears in a suit.

“What’s wrong?”

“Men...tried to kidnap me”

“Okay, relax you’re home now”

I look and the men run towards us. Leo appears with a gun and points it at their direction.

“You touch my sister again, I will personally kill you” he yells at them. They stop and turn back as I look up at Leo. He pats my head and heads inside.

Rainer heads out the door as he grabs his suitcase.

“See ya guys later”

“See ya”

He closes the door as I head to the couch. I sit next to Leo as he looks into the fire place.

“Why did you have a gun?”

“I had some business with them. But I was gonna take the gun in case”

“Oh”

“Yea. Anyways next time you bump into them, tell them Leo isn’t messing around”

“Okay”

“I don’t want to go to school anymore”

“How come?”

“These girls are picking on me”

“Why is that?”

“I don’t know. The fact you and Rainer have the same eye color, you guys are lucky”

“I see. Don’t worry, it makes you unique”

“Okay”

I yawn as I hear something odd. I look around and see nothing. I look at Leo as he looks at a picture.

“What is it?”

“Did you hear something?”

“No. Anyways I’m gonna get ready”

“Okay”

He gets up and heads to his room. I knew my brothers was part of a gang, I don’t know how serious it is. But I just shrug it off since they don’t talk about it much. I lay down and hear the door open.

“I thought you had to leave Rainer”

I don’t hear anything and get up to see it’s one of the men.

“Relax, I just need to talk to your brother”

“Okay”

After an hour, the man leaves and Leo heads to the kitchen. I get up and head to my room. I end up falling asleep.

“Mare run now”
