PROLOGUE

Giselle was dreaming.

She was inside of some old, rickety, grey-colored house. She was in the center of a circle formed up of a bunch of random teens from school she didn’t even know, but she noticed her bestfriend, Austin, sitting in the circle of kids, look rather terrified.

“So, Giselle,” the girl sitting beside Austin said, before flipping back her wavy, brown hair that faded down into a blonde color.

Giselle looked terrified as well, crossing her fingers inside of her lap as she sat.

“You have been chosen.”

Those few words made a little sparked chill go down Giselle’s back, and back up. She gulped, afraid.

All of the kids surrounding Giselle all started chanting three words — “truth or dare!”— over and over again.

”Dare,” sighed Giselle, afraid.

“Let me think..,” the brown-blonde girl paused for a second, before a devious smile spread across her pretty face. “Oh. I know.”

“What is it?” asked Giselle, her fingers still crossed in her lap, hoping that the girl would have mercy on here.

“Oh! I know exactly what it should be,” said the girl, pausing for a second, killing Giselle with the suspense. “I dare you to sacrifice your friend Austin here. Throw him into the pit of fire outside.”

Giselle gasped. Austin was speechless.

The girl let out a devious laugh, as if she was enjoying this.

Everybody stood up from their spots on the floor, and walked outside, where there was a giant red fire covering some of the grass.

“I have to throw Austin into the fire? He’s my best friend!” replied Giselle. But she later realized she had no choice.

“It’s not really your choice or not. Do it or I’ll do the shit for you.”

Giselle turned around, facing Austin.

Austin pushed up his foggy glasses. “Giselle, we don’t have a choice. You know what’ll happen if you don’t do this.”

Giselle’s eyes were now flooding with tears. “But-but Austin..”

“Just do it!”

Moment after that, Austin was standing in front of Giselle, her hands pushed out in front of herself, ready to push him into the blaze. Her eyes were still rimmed with tears, and her head was throbbing. But she heard was Austin said. They don’t have a choice.

She pushed him into the fire. The fire roared, as Austin let out a bloodcurdling scream.

Giselle bolted upright in her bed. Thank God it had only been a dream, or had it?
