Chapter 1

I stared down at the untouched test paper. Numbers swirled around in my mind, yet I couldn't seem to catch any. All of the other students were writing down answers, coloring in bubbles, and moving on to the next difficult question. And then, there was me. Sitting at the back of the class with a confused expression plastered to my face, and an attention span of two seconds.

I didn't even remember what class I was in. I guessed I shouldn't have slept through all of the lessons that were given, yet I couldn't regret it. Sleep is something that should be mandatory in schools. Have you seen how many people just fall asleep at random times? My point proven.

The teacher at the front of the room was looking particularly at me, as if I was a pesky fly spotted in a kitchen. I waited for her to grab the fly swat, yet surprisingly, she didn't even bother.

The guy who sat next to me was frantically scribbling on his piece of paper. Somehow, it was cleaner than mine, which I thought was completely and utterly impossible because I hadn't laid a finger on mine, whilst he had the chance to put led smudges on his.

The boy stopped writing for a second, and just stared blankly at his paper, before laying his blue pen down. He neatly folded his paper so that all of the answers which he had scribbled down, were facing towards me. Before I could stop, I found myself copying his answers down onto my own sheet, praying that he was at least smart.

"Cheating, now are we, Hailey?" The teacher growled, as I quickly threw a last glance at his sheet. "And I actually thought by seating you next to Nelson would force you to work for once. It's quite a pity that I was wrong. You could do with a little bit of studying."

I didn't know what to say. My mouth was suddenly dry, and the faint buzz that filled my head was growing louder, causing me to feel as if I was going insane.

"I was simply checking my answers early, ma'am."I reasoned.

"You knew that this was an exam, and you surely know that it's Mrs Norris to you. This just proves my point on why you shouldn't be in MY extension class." She scowled.

"Yes, Mrs Norris."

"Now straighten up and do your work before I call the principal, young lady." Mrs Norris fumed, her pale cheeks reddening slightly.

Now everybody was turned to face me. Their eyes were pierced into my soul, and fear churned inside of me, like a small boat far out at sea would.

"I can if everybody stops facing me," I shivered, hoping I had struck a deal with her.

If Mrs Norris's face was red before, it was nothing compared to now.

"Out." She commanded. "GET OUT."
