Prologue
Power.
That is what the famous Gilson family consists of. Though sometimes, having everything isn't want we need. To the poor, money means survival, for the rich? It means being an utter asshole. But don't get me wrong, not every rich person is a bad person, but in the Gilson family, that was your identity.
Ryan Gilson; the CEO of Golden Enterprises. Success stories are just as unique as the people who tell them- but are they always true?
Ryan and Steve were born into a poor family in Wales. They would drag their worn pumps over the cobbled sidewalks between the bakery and the pharmacy, asking for money or even food.
Living with their grandparents in the old house, the house seemed to have collapsed inwardly on itself, somewhat like the load of bread that has been taken out of the oven too soon. The roof sagged and the cedar shingles stuck up in places like wonky teeth. The windows had no glass in them now, and they were not to be quite rectangular either.
In the high winds of the season, the old house would creak as if in its death throes. The grass started to grow long and unkempt. Grandad Arnold would shout at Ryan and Steve constantly, sending them on a never-ending hunt for food.
After an awful storm, both grandpa Arnold and grandma Matilda died; the poorly built house has collapsed on them and they didn't make it out alive. Death- as Ryan says-you never know how it feels, or what happens or where you go after you die. For sure, how can one even know?
Most of the time, you are too busy to think about it. The rest? you are either too scared to think or you believe that you still have a lot of time to think about it. That's never the case.
Steve and Ryan left that early morning to London- the storm started to heighten and it was time to look forward onto a new life. "Do you think we will always stick together?" Asks Steve. Ryan held onto his hand as they sat inside the bus en route to London St Pancras, "We will always be brothers and with that, we will always stick together."
Though they were always going to be brothers – they never stuck together.
Ryan met Amara Grace when she worked as a store director in Selfridges- she was the daughter of the CEO but she still insisted to work. She was always a giver. Ryan's green emerald eyes took one look of seduction towards her, that drew the innocence out of her pure soul.
Working his charm, he got Amara where he wanted. Eventually, the engagement and wedding party occurred- and Ryan was the runner up to take over the company. He became wealthier by the minute, earning thousands every hour that passed, then millions every minute.
What happened to Steve? He was good friends with Amara, in fact, the town talked on how he was in love with her. The way his eyes glistened every time she looked in his direction; the pure face of pleasure whenever his name rolled off her tongue –but Ryan didn't enjoy this talk, kicking Steve out was the only solution.
Amara was never into the money, she didn't even care about the inheritance she had won when her father passed away- she was more of a loving wife and soon to be a loving more.
She fell pregnant of Elliot Gilson.
Neither to say, Ryan was over the moon- his wife was expecting a son; an heir to his company. What more could he want?
3rd july 1996, Elliot Gilson was born.
Amara loved Elliot; he was the light of her life, the fire in her soul, and on his 8th birthday she said to him, with tears in her eyes,"You can be anything you want, but never forget the beautiful soul you have."
And the day after his 8th birthday, Amara Grace was murdered.
