1 || Introducing Oxford

I looked out of my new window with a sigh. Looking down on the campus which I guess is now also apart of mine.

“We will miss you at home honey.” My mother called behind me which I responded to with a hug.

After a brisk hug - my mother held me at arms length, “and even though your father isn’t here - just know that he is very proud of you getting into such a prestigious university.”

I hugged my mother again tightly. Being here at university - by myself - is obviously going to be hard as I have never been that far away from my parents before. I mean, they’ve always been there for me and been apart of me.

“I’m gonna miss you mum.” I muffled out against her shoulder - tears now forming in my eyes.

Sometimes I wish I didn’t get such good grades and ended up choosing to go to such a prestigious university which is so far away from my loving parents. Out of all the places I chose Oxford to get my diploma. A place so far from home but is more than likely the place which will take care of me the most. Well, hopefully.

I sighed yet again - which felt like the hundredth time today before saying a brisk goodbye to my mother; making sure that my mothers departure wouldn't affect me too badly. I watched as my mother walked down the corridor - further away from my dorm - from me. I continued to see my mother round a corner before closing the dorm room door and falling against it.

That's officially it. From now on - whilst I am at this university - I am on my own.

I felt a few tears slide - making sure to rub them away as they came. I can't let this situation get the better of me! I'm getting older and my parents can't be around forever - that meaning that there is a time and a place to finally let go. Not officially but be able to make a life of my own - away from my parents. And as much as that fact pains me - I have to do this; I have to grow up!

I kept rubbing away the tears profusely. I can't give into my urges to cry - I must be the better person and do what I must!

Suddenly a knock designated from my dorm room door. I quickly wiped away the rest of the tears which had suddenly fallen and shuffled myself closer to the closed door.

A knock occurred again which made me slightly jump into the air.

"Hello? Is anyone there?" I heard a feminine voice shout through the door.

Another knock ensured.

"Helloooooooo?" the girl continued.

With yet another sigh, I slowly opened the dorm room door.

"Jeez, I didn't think anyone was gonna answer!" the girl said in an excited voice.

I gave her a small smile, "hello, I'm Andy." I opened the dorm room door more - wanting to be a welcoming individual.

I watched as the girl in front of me grabbed my hand whilst shaking it profusely, "hey Andy, I'm Bethany but everyone calls me Beth!"

She let go of my hand slowly and gave me a wide smile, "im apart of the Oxford news here and also I'm now your neighbor!"

I gave Beth a wide smile; accepting her kindness.

"Well, it is nice to meet you Beth." I kindly said.

Beth's eyes seemed to have lit up, "OMG, What course are you doing here? I hope it's english literature because OMG that would be TWINNING?!" She now gave a slight jump into the air in excitement.

I gave a slight shake of my head, "no, I'm here for a forensic degree actually." I watched Beth stop jumping around, "But I'm sure I'll see you around."

The door now fully wide, Beth grabbed my upper arms and shook me slightly, "OMG you have to become apart of the newspaper here on campus!"

I gave a slight shake of my head, "that doesn't sound like my cup of tea, no offence."

I watched as Beth gave a slight shrug of her shoulders - still holding onto my own, "thats okay. It's not for everyone."

I continued to watch as something lit up in her eyes, "we need to go to the canteen. I mean have you tried their food yet?"

I gave a slight shake of my head and we were off. Well, not until I quickly grabbed my purse and dorm keys before slamming the door shut - being briskly carried away with Beth.

We went out of the dorm building and across the large campus into the main building - where some of my introductory classes took place. Beth seemed to know the campus fairly well as she dragged me through crowds and manovered the corridors of the campus as if it was second nature. She stopped us when we made it to the back of the campus building - in the canteen area. Now Oxford is a large school facilitating many small canteens but this canteen is the largest one out of them all - and when I mean big - I mean BIG!

We made our way through the countless tables and to the line at the very front of the canteen area.

"Your gonna die when you eat this food!" she exclaimed happily which made me laugh slightly at her excitement.

As Beth kept drawling over the food, I preoccupied myself by looking around the large canteen area. It was truly massive - the scale being undeniably huge! Having this view point makes me believe that the substantial amount of students wouldn't be able to fully fit into this area at once.

My eyes went to the main door - which myself and Beth went through. My attention stayed on the door until a group of individuals came walking through the door - with pride evident on them. They completely blanked everyone else around them and held their heads high. I looked around them and saw that everyone was staring at the intriguing group.

I slightly tilted my head to the side to try and understand why they are so intriguing.

"Ahh, yes the secret but not so secret Lynch society." I heard Beth say from besides me.

A secret society?
