Welcome to Coral Coast High
BEFORE YOU START READING - This is Mabel talking to you, but the story is about other students that are not with you. And please let me know down in the comments which you would rather be. An intelligent student or a magic student! Happy reading ^-^
You are waiting with a group of teens about your age at the school gate. A girl wearing the school uniform in red, which shows she is a magic student, walks towards you all. She has long, dark brown hair with a straight fringe. She has a ribbon on either side of her head as decoration
“Hi, welcome to Coral Coast high. I am one of the students here; the names Mabel! I am part of the school council and welcoming committee so... Welcome! I have powers, which is why I was enrolled here. I can control and create water, which means I can kinda control you, seeing as you are made up of about 60% water... But I won’t do that to you... There is actually a rule at this school stating you can’t use your powers on other people unless you are in class, and I have to set an example so... I won’t do anything to you. Even if it wasn’t a rule, you seem like nice people, so I won’t try to take control of your body, don’t worry! Sorry, I’m meant to be showing you around, so... um, follow me.”
You all enter the school gates and follow Mabel down a long path that leads to the main school building, Mabel talking to you as you walk.
“So before we get to the door I should probably tell you about the school and the people here. Coral Coast High, or CCH for short, is a boarding school, which only really talented kids can get into, and you got in... So yay, you are a talented human being! Some people get in just because they have amazing brains and they find nothing hard in life, and CCH tries to give them school work that they will actually find challenging and learn something from. We also try to teach them tasks that people of average mental capacity would not be able to do, but of course, they ace those tests too. Then there’s magic students like me who are taught how to battle and defend ourselves so we can protect ourselves in the outside world, from people who might want to... I don’t know... Maybe use us for our powers or scientists who want to test on us or something like that, because we are kinda abnormal in this world, so that’s why no one really knows about us. Anyway, we also learn about our powers and the history of our magic. Oh, and now I think about it, I should also mention that the wall around the school is to keep any bad people out. The school has it there just to protect us, and the only outsiders allowed in are people who CCH staff have given a special pass to, and before they do that they need to confirm it with the headteacher. We can only leave when we are going home for the holidays, and I know that sounds like a prison, but we have all we need in here and it is to protect us from the outside world. There is also an invisible barrier over the school that starts from the wall up so no one can... You know, climb over the wall, and as you can see, the school is in the countryside, but people who do not know about magic still do not know this is a school and if they do, they just think it is like any other boarding school, and assume there are no spaces left for new students”
You all finally reach the school building. Mabel continues to talk as you walk through the door and see the ground floor
“Ok we are in the school now; sorry for the long chat on the way here, but there is a lot to get through in so little time. The assembly is going to start soon, and I need to get through all the key info with you guys first. So let's get started; this is the ground floor, and as you can see it is just a long, wide corridor. It is really just loads and loads of lockers with some doors on the way down leading to the lunchroom, gym, reception office, medical center, assembly hall and the head teacher’s office. The bathrooms are also included on this floor. Also! If you wanna eat outside, there are plenty of chairs and tables out there”
Mabel walks over to a set of stairs and starts to go up them, so you follow her.
“So, follow me up this staircase to the second floor. All the main subjects are on this floor, those being; English, Maths, Science, Geography, RE, History, and languages, at this school we have a choice of German, French, Spanish, Latin, Japanese or Mandarin. We are really lucky to have all these languages but... I do wish we had some more. We also have the Library on this floor. Oh! And just so you know, only the intelligent students have all these subjects. If you are a magic-user like me, you can only pick one language, and you don’t have the rest of the subjects unless you want to”
Mabel seems to be in a bit of a hurry as she charges down the corridor to get to the next staircase. Meanwhile, you and the group are struggling to keep up
“Now we are on the third floor, and here we have more subjects, but they are not compulsory. They are; cooking, health and social care, business, music, art, - including all different forms of art, such as textiles, DT, etc. - ICT, economics, and many more. You can pick up to three subjects to do, but yet again if you are a magic-user you can only pick one of these subjects. Yeah... this is a corridor has a lot of stuff crammed into it.”
You all continue to follow Mabel up another set of stairs, but these are different. They are blocked off by a door that has warning signs on it. You get up to the next floor, but to your surprise, it looks just like the rest of the school
“This is the last floor, which is exclusive to the students with powers like me. These classes are compulsory, as they are important for our health and wellbeing. We learn how to use our powers properly, and how to protect ourselves, as well as, as mentioned earlier, the history of our powers and how to battle. Pretty much everything you can think of is taught here. There is also another medical center solely for this floor because it can get pretty crazy up here. Intelligent students are not allowed up here, but if you are an intelligent student and you’re up here now... It might be ok. I mean, we are on a tour and lessons don’t start until tomorrow but, if you get in trouble don’t worry, I have you covered! If you think it’s unreasonable that only magic students can come up here, it's not really, because it’s for your personal safety. The powers that some students have here can be deadly, especially if you can’t defend yourself with your own power.”
“Ok, let me think of any other info I can give you... There’s a road full of houses that us students live in. It’s like a real road of houses and it forms a little community - it’s really nice. Each house has a living room, bathrooms, a kitchen, and bedrooms. The dorms take both boys and girls, the boys’ bedrooms being downstairs and the girls upstairs. The age groups are also mixed. They all have names of course, and they are named after flowers! Cute right?! They are the Cordelia house, Lavender house, Lily house, Tulip House, Bluebell house and Rose house. Each house fits twenty people and a house mother, normally ten girls and ten boys, except for the Cordelia house because it is the smallest one at the top of the road and can only house sixteen people, but the school prefers a smaller amount of people in that house anyway, but I don’t know why. You’re probably thinking that this is a pretty small school because there are only six houses, with twenty students in each one - except for the Cordelia house, which is even smaller. And you would be right, however, that is because having a magic power or a superhuman brain isn’t that common. Due to this, there’s not that many of us around, so schools like this don’t have that many pupils, but the school building itself is really big. Talking about the Cordelia house there’s only seven people and a house mother living there this year and all have really powerful and rare powers, except two... But they really do stand out. I know one of them, and he is a pain and the new girl I don’t. There are some rumors about her. I used to live in the Cordelia house, and it was the best, but they moved me to Lily house this year, and I’m not sure why... Oh, I am sorry! I am rambling, and we are seriously running out of time and I still have a bit of really important information to tell you!”
Mabel starts to walk back downstairs and you all follow her. She continues to talk while you walk
“Ok so, the house mother or father, if they are male because I am sure there are two here... Anyway, they look after the house and cook breakfast and dinner - we have lunch in school - and they do help with cleaning up and stuff but depending on your house mother or father’s rules you will have to wash your clothes yourself or possibly help set and clear tables, but if you think about the trouble they go through... it only seems fair. Think of the house mothers and fathers as your parents while we stay here as they are all really nice. Finally, depending on if you’re an intelligent student or a magic-user, depends on what colour your uniform is. If you are an intelligent student your uniform will be a white shirt and a blue skirt and tie for girls, and black trousers and a blue tie for boys. If you are a magic student like me though, the clothing is the same, but your tie and skirt will be red if you’re female. All students have a black blazer and an optional yellow jumper, but in the summer you don’t have to wear either. You should receive your uniform from your house mother or father tomorrow which is moving in day! Just unpacking and similar things”
“I think that about covers everything... I hope you enjoyed the tour and you have a good idea of how to get round the school! Oh, and the dorms are down another path to your right, when you exit the school. Everyone here is quite nice, so just ask if you get lost. We all have an assembly to get to now, so let's get going.
You all hurry down to the assembly hall
“I hope you enjoy your time at Coral Coast High, I will see you around!”
