Short story
It was another day in Harold’s diner and Alison had been getting ready to serve her grumpy customer like everyday. When she saw him sitting alone completely helpless at the far booth near the entrance she went over to hand him his meal. He took a bite from the plate and she could tell by his face he was satisfied. Without standing around to wait for a thank you, she made her way to the other customers. The day had went by smoothly and soon it came to an end. She was the last one at the diner and decided to lock up. After she had finished locking up she made her way home. It was three weeks later in the diner and Alison hadn’t seen Mr. bobby. For some reason it worried her. So she decided to wait a few more weeks. After waiting she started to grow impatient. She had to know if he was okay, but how? She asked herself. She didn’t have his number, email, or address. One night as she was closing up the diner she found a letter. It read aloud “ dear Alison, my time has finally arrived for a grumpy man who’s been battling cancer. I know that I haven’t exactly made working at the diner easy and for that I apologize. Sincerely - your grumpy customer” Alison didn’t know why but she felt a rush of tears falling down her face. She knew that behind all that grumpiness he wasn’t a bad person that he made everybody to believe. She clutched the note in her hand and made her way through the night knowing that he had been watching over like a guardian angel.
