Chapter 1
Heard but not seen. The trees stood proudly head high up; tiny water droplets lay lazily on the emerald green leaves twinkling in the sun. They swayed gently with each small breeze. Birds tweeting softly: high pitched but in tune with each other. The birds were hidden away. Their voices echoed across the army of the rainforest. The air around the tanned tree trunks was filled with fairy dust and brought the world around to life. The trees whispered among themselves, gossiping about the latest occurrence in their magical realm.
The splashing and crashing of the water that smacked the rocks below with such force, sent deafening noises reverberating all around. The sound of the white-water cascading down the wall gave the impression of there being multiple of them instead of just the lonely, angry one. The torrents of water poured over the rocks hard enough to crack your skull and end all hope of living on the way down. The swirl of the pool below was bottomless and would drown anyone and anything if they were to survive a fall. From the bottom, anyone would be awe-struck from the view but from the top, it was brutal and petrifying. The murderer made it clear to anyone who walked past who the real boss around here was.
Lying there absolutely lifeless on a wet grey rock was a bird. Dead. Its white glassy eyes were open. Staring out but seeing nothing. Its feathers and body were soaked through right to the centre of its motionless bones, shivers sent through the deathbed on which lay the bird. Its neck had been twisted; it had felt the wrath of the waterfall. It had been pulled under by the vicious current alive, emerging dead. It has been washed up onto the rock already having taken its last choking breath, trying to scream for help but failing as it fell through to portal that led to the afterlife.
One lonesome fly was minding its own business, flying and buzzing around this body, being watched by the row of silent birds above that surveyed the situation clearly warned and silenced, afraid for who could be next. A dull green coloured frog that had dark spots all over its back, bounced cheerfully over to the crime scene its glossy eyes stuck to the tiny wings that floated through the air. It took its time as it got nearer and nearer until it struck. Its long, rough, pink tongue shot out and grabbed the fly squeezing the life out of this innocent creature.
As the waterfall kept watch over its forest, it continued to splash droplets of water all around. The canopy of trees above that was covered water reacted with the light projected from the sun leaving a trail of rainbows all around. The bright pastel colours that were left behind glistened in sync with the pool below that also had stars shining bright on top. The azure blue sky had watched the day’s events occur and sighed as a small gust of wind hit the trees, making them shiver and dance as the world carried on with its daily routine.
