Chapter 1

Chapter: 1

Griffin awoke to the sound of metal clanking, the town blacksmith starting his day. Everyone else was out and about carrying on with their usual tasks, but today was a special day. Today was Griffin’s 17th birthday, that means today was the day he could leave his hometown and become a God Hunter. He leapt out of bed onto the cold floor of his room, without haste he got dressed and ran outside to greet his fellow townspeople. It was a small town, and everyone knew everyone. He ran to his bestfriends house, he burst through the door; their families had known each other for so long it was not only allowed but expected that he didn't knock. He raced up to her room and opened the door with so much force it should have snapped at the hinges,

“Kasey, Kasey, Kasey, Kasey, Kasey!” he screamed into the amalgamation of blankets and pillows scattered across the floor. A low moan came from somewhere under the mess,

“go awaaaaaay” she mumbled under the mountain of fabric.

“We gotta get ready!” Griffin shouted into the air. Today was also Kasey’s birthday, one of the reasons they had become such great friends,

“if we don’t get to the town center we won’t be able to start our God Hunting careers!” he yelled while jumping on various parts of the pillow valley in an attempt to locate Kasey, eventually she stood up on the opposite side of the room of Griffin’s jumping. They both went down stairs after Kasey got dressed, they met Kasey’s mother downstairs before heading out the door, the trees were bustling in the wind today. And the sun was coming up over the horizon, approaching noon in a few hours. A few of the townspeople had come to watch Griffin and Kasey go off, but most of them had opted to continue their mundane jobs. The town eminence was present to talk to them about the world of God Hunting, and to make sure they still wanted to do this. His Axe Charm rested on his back, and he spoke with a gentle confidence. He explained to them the rules of God Hunting and went over general income management. after his short speech they were both given basic swords, and shields and enough food and money to last a week.

“Guards! The doors!” the Eminence shouted, and the divide that separated their small town, and the God Realm was opened. The two of them stepped out into the wooded area, and waved final goodbye to those who had come to watch. As they got farther and farther away the guards began to close the gate behind the two, leaving them within the confinements of their wooden cage. On their way down the dirt road that trekked through the god realm, they met a familiar face. A boy named Stephen mindlessly walking through the forest, an amazing role model for Griffin as he was growing up, but for the past couple of years Stephen had been adventuring the God Realm. Not trying to become an eminence, just having fun. Going around killing gods for the entitlement of pure enjoyment, but his quest for fun left him with bountiful treasures. Slung from his shoulder, towering above him. Was a sword easily the size of his body if not longer, he noticed us as we got closer,

“Griffin?! I didn't make it for the Ceremony?!” He screamed running to close the gap between us,

“by about 10 minutes” Griffin responded, Stephen let out a grunt of frustration as he untied his backpack, and let his weight fall to the ground. His Sword followed along with it. Making the world seemingly shake around them with the impact of the sword clashing with the dirt below his feet.

“Hey, it's gonna be dark soon. Do you guys wanna build a camp for the night?” He asked, they both gave nods of agreement and began to build a small fire. And Erect tents around it, after finishing their camp they sat around the fire and began talking. After awhile Stephen pulled something out of the now grounded pack, it seemed to be a wrapped package. He handed it to Kacey. before allowing her to open, he handed Griffin a somewhat smaller package. After being satisfied with both of them having their gifts he told Katey to open hers. She slowly opened to package to reveal a set of what appeared to be gauntlets. without hesitation she put them on, and began to punch the air.

“Be careful there, i messed around with them a little. They pack quite a punch” Stephen warned. She ignored his warning and punched the tree nearest herself, the tree shattered at contact, and pieces that managed to stay together flew through the air at the speed of a bullet. Knocking down trees that were unlucky enough to reside within its path. After doing so, she collapsed. Griffin rushed to check on her,

“i was about to finish, the glove works with a feedback system. The more energy you draw from the gauntlets, the more energy the gauntlets draws from you. I used those to fight a titan god, knocked me out for nearly a week.” Kacey lie unconscious on the ground.

“How long will she be like this?” Griffin questioned,

“could be an hour. Could be 3” he explained as he picked up his backpack, your present is a little different.”

“What do you mean” Griffin inquired,

“you can't open it now.” He explained

“when can i?” Griffin shot back,

“when you’re on your journey. And things are looking as dark as they can possibly get, wait a little bit longer, then open it.” Stephen proposed. After a look of confusion, Griffin decided to not question Stephen’s bizarre request.

“What is a Titan God?” Griffin questioned,

“you’re well aware of the different types of gods, but out in the realm we have names for them. A Lurker is about the size of a tree, a Goliath is roughly 1 or 2 houses together, a Titan is the size of a mountain or so. Then Demons, a class of god with extreme power that is near unmatchable, but all the while almost the size of a human give or take a few feet.” He paused for a moment to let Griffin absorb the information.”oh yeah, there are also Lynchers. Incredibly humanoid, vastly similar to the Demons, But Hyper-intelligent and Extremely dangerous, most people who come across one don't live to tell the tale.” Griffin pondered over the information before asking

“so I’m assuming the more powerful the God, the more powerful the reward?”

“Very clever, yes indeed.” Stephen responded,

“then what kind of God did you kill to get those Gauntlets. And your sword?”

Griffin fired back, “those Gauntlets are Titan class. And Zweihänder here is a demon. I don't use anything less than Titan, and I’ve never run into a lurker. Nor do i intend to.” He rambled as he began admiring his Zweihänder.

“What are we going to do in the morning?” Griffin asked, “i'm going back to town. Need to say hi to the folks, leaving you two on your journey.” he said waving his hand around the word journey.

“Are we ever going to run into each other again?” Griffin continued,

“it's likely. Not only do you have a long way to go until you reach the capital, you still need to find a lurker or titan Charm. The Ever-King has 3 lurker Charms, you won't beat him with those gauntlets.” he rattled off. At this point he pulled out a bottle of wine, and use the blunt base of Zweihander’s blade to pop the top. Taking a graceful chug straight from the bottle before handing it to Griffin, Griffin stared at the bottle before looking up at Stephen,

“i'm only 17.” Stephen laughed before responding, “you’ll need to grow some balls if you wanna become a God Hunter.” he continued to laugh into the air, after a while to two of them got extremely drunk, and laughed the night away.
