Chapter 1 The Angel of Death
She walks in the streets as she was greeted with the usual welcoming noise of people doing their own stuff. Azerath an 18 year old girl, prodigy in piano quit in the classical world since her father passed away and ever since she had been struggling with something that she didn't want people to know. Also known as the Angel of Death walked to the subway as she was heading to a place where she saw a piano. Like other pianist she had a sudden urge to hop on and play and so she did, she didn't know what to play until a piece popped up in her mind. Beethoven's Sonata op 8 also known as "Pathetique", the piece had a huge meaning to her since she played it on a competition right before her father died. Azerath began the emotional piece with a forte and slowly tears started dripping down as she remembered right after the competition she rushed to the hospital only to find her father dead. It felt like time stopped as she was playing, it felt like nobody was moving, it was only her and the universe speaking through music. The piece came to an end, Azerath wiped her tears away and was approached by a tall man with grey hair and round glasses.
"Bonjour? Excusez moi s'il vous plait?" The man spoke in French after all it is Paris. Azerath looked up and the man's eyes widen,
"Perhaps you're the Angel of Death?" The man asked with disbelief,
"Nobody calls me that anymore." She stood up and and her hands brushed through her long wavy brunette hair, her piercing blue eyes avoiding the man while walking away.
"But you are the Angel of Death, nice to meet you I'm Alvis Laurent, the music director in Conservatoire de Paris." The man smiled and offer his business card to Azerath and she took it politely.
"Why would a director be in a subway of Paris? Don't you have your lavish cars and rich mansions?" Azerath scoffed,
"You thought wrong Azerath, being a director isn't as lucrative as you thought it would be." Alvis laughed and so did Azerath,
"So why are you talking to me or anything, you must have something you want to do." Azerath's tone changed almost immediately,
"I want you to enter Conservatoire de Paris as a student and I will provide everything for you." Alvis says pleadingly,
"Sorry I'm not interested." That was the only reply Azerath gave,
"Please think about it, call me or come to my office when you have your answer." Azerath sped up her paste and Alvis tries to catch up,
"I'll call you when I finish thinking about it, I need a place to start university anyways." Azerath said causally and sped off leaving Alvis a happy smile. Azerath went home, she shuts the door behind her and took her shoes off leaving her socks on.
"I'm home." Her voice barely audible she forgot how she lives alone ever since her father's death, her mother left her father at a young age leaving little Azerath with her father alone. Ever since her father died, her grandma was suppose to take care of her but she also died a month ago leaving Azerath alone. She looked at the grand piano in the living room and sighed,
"What will I do with you old friend." She walked towards the piano and opened it's lid, she started playing Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 1. The notes floated in her mind but slowly it fades to blank, she couldn't remember. She couldn't read notes anymore it's like reading a blank piece of paper, she couldn't play she couldn't think...
"Damn it!" She slammed her hands on the keys and it made a horrific sound, then a ping sound came on her phone. She checked and saw a message from Tiana.
Tiana 2:30pm : Hey wya?
Azerath typing...
Azerath 2:30pm: home why?
Tiana 2:31pm: can I come over? Need to talk to u abt uni and crap
Azerath 2:31pm: sure when are u arriving?
Tiana 2:31pm: I'm at ur apartment already lol
Then the door opened up, a beautiful African American appeared with her long locks and brown eyes with stylish clothing came through the door,
"Hey Az!" Tiana joyfully greeted,
"Hey, you know you don't randomly show up to people's homes, it's kinda creepy." Azerath pinched her nose bridged,
"But I already told you I was coming so, oh yeah YOU STARTED PLAYING AGAIN?" Tiana yelled in excitement seeing her best friend on the piano bench,
"No the Angel of Death won't come back ever again." Azerath took a deep breath in and sighed,
"Aw damn." Tiana gave her the usual disappointed pout,
"K why are you here?" Azerath went straight to the point,
"I told you, I wanna talk about uni decisions and crap, look I applied for Conservatoire de Paris, Yale School of Music, and Julliard. All of them accepted now I have to choose one." Tiana looked at her best friend happily,
"Oh, I met the director of Conservatoire de Paris, he told me to enroll to their school and call him." Azerath randomly said,
"Wait WHAT?" Tiana yelled again,
"Tiana can you not yell? I wonder how Tom survives with your noise level." Azareth rolled her eyes,
"Hehe, so Alvis Laurent told you to call him for enrolment in Conservatoire de Paris?" Tiana's eyes widen and her jaws looks like it's about to break from smiling so much,
"Yeah that guy, he called me the Angel of Death and knows who I am." Azerath played C-major scale on the piano.
"Woah even the C-Major scale sounds so good when you play it." Tiana looked amazed,
"Oh can you stop it? It's only a scale." Azerath rolled her eyes once again,
"So are you gonna accept the offer?" Tiana arched her brow,
"I told him I need to think it plus I kinda need money for my grandma's funeral... it's been a month I still don't know where to get the money." Azerath shrugged,
"Wait so if you accept Conservatoire I'll get into Conservatoire as well, we're in Paris anyways." Tiana said gleefully,
"But I don't want to go back to piano..." Azerath's tone sounded sad,
"You have no choice Az, I'll do my violin major and you'll do piano sounds good?"
"No it doesn't sound good, but I really need the money for grandma's funeral..." Azerath frowned, moments later of silence she finally said,
"Fine I'll accept the offer."
