Eccentric
If you never met Julian, you might hear from others that he was insensitive, insane, or frightening. In actuality, he was pretty normal, just eccentric, with... a few troubles at home. Usually, to get over this, he'd go outside, smoke a cigar, which would occasionally get tangled in his long, stringy mustache.
He considered himself perfectly average, with a normal marriage, but everyone "knew" that was a lie. He could tell by their paranoid looks, the stares, he was unwanted. New people would come in and out of town, but not one stopped by his house.
Julian was an outcast.
