Prologue
The sunlight streamed in through the slightly parted curtains giving a golden shade to the room. Birds began chirping and the newly bloomed flowers spread their sweet fragrance in the air. The first day of spring was filled with beauty and colors. The nine-year-old lay sound asleep on her bed until she was woken by her mother.
“Wake up sweety, it is time to go” her mom said.
“But mama I wanna sleep some more please” the girl replied still sleeping.
But the moment her mom said “Well okay then.... your little brother is about to finish all your favorite pancakes”, she jolted from her bed and ran to get freshened up telling her mom to keep her share and that she would be back in a jiffy...
She went to the kitchen and saw her dad arranging breakfast.
“Hi papa, where are my pancakes ? " she asked with a toothy grin.
“Good morning sweetheart “, her dad replied before scooping her up and giving her kiss on the cheek and placing the breakfast before her.
“Let’s have breakfast and then we can leave”, he said to his wife who was cleaning up her six-year-old son who had a mischievous smile on his face.
By the time their parents finished packing and loading the rest of the things it was past nine and the girl had gone to her best friends house to play. They were neighbors and also the best of friends.
They had known each other since first grade and had been friends ever since. They played, fought, shared lunch, went family trips and did every other thing together. He was like her protector and was always with her.
When her mom called she said goodbye to his younger twin six-year-old siblings and she ran out to her parents. The boy and his parents had also come to the driveway to bid farewell to them and watched as they left.
“Will they come back mommy ? ” he asked looking at his best friend going out of sight.
“No darling, they are leaving this place and wont come back” was his mom’s reply.
Little did those two realize that they wont see each other again. Little did they know that they would not have all the fun playing and sharing things together.
And little did they know that they were going away from each other...
