Chapter 1
"Let's have a divorce!" These were the exact words that me and my sister heard as we stood outside our parent's room, ready to tell them that the tooth fairy had paid us a visit.
Back then, my sister Ella was six years old while I was four.
I didn't know the exact meaning of the words that they had screamed back there, but I bet that Ella did, cause I felt her hand squeezing mine as her body shook--not in fear but clearly in anger.
Their fight didn't bother me much cause, like other children, I thought that my parents just had a another fight like they always did, but little did know that I was wrong.
"Ella, Lin, listen to me." Said the lady, whose face I can no longer remember, as she held on our tiny hands. "M-Mommy.... Mommy has to go away, a-and mommy can't bring you with her cause she doesn't have the m-money to feed you." She tried to hold back her tears as she squeezed our tiny hands.
"Are you going to come back after you've got money to feed us?" I remember asking back then as I had no clue to what was really happing. "Then next time, can we go on a vacation together?"
The lady, stood still for a few seconds, trying to find the words to say, before pulling us both into a hug. I felt her shaking as she sobbed a little while squeezing us both. "I love you both so much."
That was the last time I saw her.
As days went by, father grew even more kinder to us. And since earning money was not a problem for him, he bought us new kinds of toys and other stuff daily. And when we were old enough to learn, father even taught us how to cook, sew (even though he himself was bad at it) and many other house work.
It wasn't long before dad started drinking. He used to come home drunk once or twice within a week but then it became a daily basis. Mumbling something to himself as he'd make his way up to his room was all he did and nothing more. He never turned into a mad man or took out his stress on us like other people.
Three years later, father decided to remarry a widow with triplets and no they aren't evil so get that thought out of your head. They are the total opposite whether my dad was around or not.
A few years have gone by since then, which brings me to today, a girl of 17 years, dashing down the staircase towards my father in the living room. He was busy drinking tea and reading a newspaper when my step-sister, Nicole appeared behind him and gently gave him a kiss on the cheek, making sure not to scare him.
"Love you." She returned the smile that dad gave her before running towards the kitchen. I followed her lead and did the same. After kissing my dad and earning a smile from him, I ran towards the kitchen, grabbed a French toast from the nearby plate and then out towards the main door I went, where Ella and Nicole where hugging my step-mom goodbye before grabbing their bags from her hands and running out of the house. "Be careful." She told them as she leaned on the door frame, still unaware of my presence.
She stood there peacefully as her black eyes watched the outside world. Her black hair was tied up into a loose ponytail, reaching her slim waist.
I stood there studying her for a minute before my lips curled up into a smile. I quietly sneaked up towards her, hoping my steps wouldn't cause a creak against the wooden floor underneath me. To my relief, I had successfully made my way towards her without her noticing.
"Morning." I whispered in her ear causing her to jump. "God! You scared me." She exclaimed, moving her hand to the heart. I laughed earning a pinch on the cheek before her gentle arms hugged me. I hugged back only to pull away the next second to take a bite of French toast. I grabbed the strip of my bag by my free hand and hugged her once more before dashing out of the house knowing that I still have a chance.
~Sam's POV~
I let my body lean against the door frame again as I watch Lin running down the street. My heart continues to beat faster and louder after the heart attack I received a few seconds ago.
But never the less, i am glad that Lin and Ella finally see me as their mother. It took us some time to get comfortable but it was worth the wait. We seriously went through a lot of hardships together which included runaways, fights and so on.
I still can't believe that I am here and I am actually happy. Years ago, just like others, I did believe that I wouldn't find any happiness after my first husband left me and the kids. But now... I found happiness. And it was all thanks to my sister-in-law. She was the one who introduced me to Troy.
My lips curled up into a smile as I remember our first so called 'meeting'.
I am interrupted from my flashbacks when I hear my boys from the other room and I turned to see them running out of the kitchen towards me. "Thanks mom." Mitsu smiled as he picked up his bag from my hands before hugging me. "Love ya."
"Be caref—!" I stopped when another pair of hands came to hug me in such a force that I almost lost my balance. "Whoa.. careful Ren." I laughed.
"Sorry but I love ya sooo much!" He smiled pulling away from me to pull the strap of his bag over his shoulder.
"Stop flirting with my wife and head to university." I hear my husband say when Ren places a kiss on my forehead. I felt a hand snake around my waist before it pulled me to the right, a few inches away from Ren and into a strong chest.
Smiling, I looked up to meet my husband's coco eyes.
Oh, how I love those eyes.
He returned the smile before placing a gentle kiss on my lips. As our lips parted, my gaze traveled from his lips to his eyes and then back to his lips.
Realising that Ren was still standing there, I turned my gaze towards him to see his face lit up like a light bulb. Confused, I opened my mouth to ask but before any words could escape my mouth, he bowed down with a smile, turned and ran down the street.
~Lin's POV~
An hour after college was over, I was ready to kill someone. No, let me rephrase that! ANYTHING THAT BREATHS!!
Why?
Cause i lost the freaking race in the morning! I was clearly in THIRD place!!! Right behind Ella and Nicole but nooo Ren and Mitsu had to speed up in the last freaking FIVE seconds!
What's worst is that being a slave for the whole day wasn't enough for my siblings so they ordered me—more like forced me to pay for the lunch they had in a restaurant and buy them a freaking expensive ice-cream with multi flavours plus the sprinkles.
.......
I've never thought that I would hate sprinkles as much as I do now.
A knock on the door caused me to lift my head from the sofa pillow in my hands and blink a few times before glancing at my surroundings and then towards the clock on the side table. I shifted on the bed when I couldn't see the clock.
It was 9:30pm.
There was a knock on the door again which was followed by my step ...... my mom's voice.
"Darling, are you okay?" I could sense the worry in her gentle voice. Of course she was worried, I skipped dinner. Don't get me wrong, I didn't skip dinner cause of what happened today. I just didn't feel like eating.
"Darling?" I hear the door creak open and my mom's head popped out from behind it. I gave her a weak smile when we made eye contact. "You okay?" She asked, as she entered and slowly walked towards me after closing the door.
"Yeah." I gave a small nod knowing that a nod alone wouldn't be enough to convince her. "Just tired."
"Busy day?"
"Yeah." I slowly sat up straight as she came to sit on the bed beside my legs. She patiently waited for me to say 'and.' And when I didn't, she raised an eyebrow to which opened my mouth and then closed it back tightly as if she was gonna open it by force.
We had a staring contest for a minute or two before she gave out a small sigh. "Alright. I won't force you to tell me." She said, running a hand through her hair. "But under one condition."
"And.... that's is?"
"Eat your dinner." I thought about for a second, not really wanting to eat dinner but I guess it's better than any other conditions that she could have given me. I gave her a small nod earning a pat on my leg.
We both head downstairs towards the kitchen where I helped mom heat up my dinner. Grabbing my plate, I sat down on my usual chair as she grabbed a glass of water and took a sip of it before starting a conversation to breakup the silence between us. I didn't mind at all.
/The following night/
I whimper in my sleep as the pain in my stomach gets worst. Forcefully, opening one of my sleepy eyes, I slowly sit up straight which made the pain even more worst.
"Shit." I curse under my breath as I clench my stomach with my right hand and used my left to help me lift up my body from the bed. My wobbly legs slowly carried me towards the bathroom while I stop after every two seconds when I felt the stomach cramps getting worst.
Upon finally entering the bathroom, I switched open the lights while heavily breathing in and out continuously.
