Moving
Growing up, playing in the yard and going to the park were all normal activities for me. Back then, my life was wonderful. Problems didn't exist and I was always smiling. As I got older though, things changed a bit. When I was about thirteen, my mom and dad got divorced and your probably wondering why.
It all started when my mom found out that my dad was secretly having an affair with her. When she found out, she was so broken that she couldn't even look at him. They argued like never before and I had no idea what to do. Luckily my mom and me decided to move to New York. My mom thought that this was a great idea and I did too. Who doesn't want a fresh new start after their mom and dad get divorced? I do.
Moving from California to New York was a long way. We had to ride on a plan and I practically got to go across America! It was a long flight but I was so amazed. I had never been that high up. I looked through the window and all I saw was fluffy clouds that were white as snow and the clear blue sky. It was beautiful.
After a few hours, I fell asleep. After all, it was hard to stay awake when you were sitting on a plane with practically nothing to do. It was a nice nap while it lasted, but I woke up to a baby crying and I thought that I was gonna go deaf. The baby cried so much that it was dark when it finally got quite. I was so relievd but before I knew it, we were there.
I have to say that New York looked gorgeous. The lights were so bright and pretty. Building were everywhere. It already felt like home. I squealed with excitement. "Mom look how beautiful it looks here!"
My mom smiled. "I'm glad you like it here," she told me. "The only thing I'm not sure about is were I'm going to work."
I didn't have any suggestions, but I did have a lot of questions. "So what will our apartment look like? Can I choose my room? I'm I aloud to decorate? Where will we be staying?" I asked, racing with questions.
My mom just laughed. She didn't answer any of my questions but she just laughed. She knew I was super excited but I knew that she wasn't that excited. After all, her ex-husband recently had an affair. What was their to be exited about in her life?
My mom and I didn't have an apartment yet so she had to get one. I was super surprised. It looked beautiful and I loved it. Of course my mom did too but she didn't love the price. We stayed in the apartment anyway because we needed somewhere to stay. I liked that apartment more then my dad's house. It was so clean and modern. I couldn't stop taking picture until I thought about Christmas. It was December 18th and I had no idea how we were gonna celebrate Christmas. "Mom, I have a question. How are we gonna celebrate Christmas?" I asked her.
My mom stopped what she was doing and took a minute to think. "Honey, I'm not sure but we'll do something. After all, I took your presents with me and I'm surely glad you didn't see them. I bet this Christmas will turn out fine though. I'll just have to think if what we should do," my mom told me.
"Well of course we have to get a tree. We also need stockings and Christmas decorations. All if that good stuff," I suggested. "I can't wait until Christmas, but who will we celebrate it with?" I asked.
My mom laughed ounce again. "It's not that easy. You know I don't have a lot of money right now. We practically lived off of your father's money," she told me. "Now that he's not here, and I don't have a job, we're screwed,"
"Mom, this is New York City! It's not hard to get a job here. You went to college, got your diploma, and you even got your GED. You're in super good hands," I said.
"You're right. It can't possibly be that hard," she happily said.
