Chapter 1 - Tia
Law school was exhausting. Between the bitchy people and the amount of work they were given every day, there was no time for anything else. Not that I had anywhere else to go. I wasn’t antisocial, I just didn’t want to deal with all the drama other people cause.
The only person I could stand was my roommate. Although I did considered myself very luck since I had heard some of the roommate horror stories that took place.
Ring. Ring. Ring. Her moms name flashed across her phone screen.
“Hey mom, what’s up?” She heard her mom start crying on the other end.
“Your Grandpa. He-he he passed away,” she started crying harder and I heard my dad trying to comfort her.
“Hey Ti this is dad. Your Grandpa Ken passed away this morning and we were waiting until you were out of class to call. The funeral is on Sunday. This is your last week right?” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I new my grandpa has some previous medical problems, but she bought he was okay now.
“Uh, yeah dad it is. I’ll be there. How about I call you back later? I need time to process all of this.” My mom was still sobbing in the background and my dad said good bye before hanging up to most likely comfort her.
What a great way to start the week I thought to myself. I walked back to my dorm trying to keep my tears at bay.
“Hey Tia!” I heard from behind me. I mentally groaned. I did not want to deal with this today. I turned around to see Colton, one of the linebackers on our football, jogging towards me. He had been trying to get with my since the begging of my freshman year. The only reason I keep saying no is because almost every time he asks me out I had already seen him with several other girls earlier that day. Colton is the definition of a cheating man whore.
“I was wondering if you wanted to go to dinner with me this weekend.” He looked hopeful but sadly I was not interested in getting played.
“Sorry Colton, I’m going home this weekend,” I said as I turned to walk away.
“Let me guess that why you keep rejecting me? Because you’ve got a sugar daddy back home?” He smirked devilishly as looked me up and down.” Is that what your into huh? Men with money?”
“For your information I’m going home to attend my grandfathers funeral, thatnl you very much. Oh and thanks for makeing my dad even worse. Have a great life.” I turn and walking away with my head heals high and an angry expression on my face. That Jerk! Who does he think he is?
I had never been happier to have a teason to go home, even if it was a crappy reason. But my biggest worry every time I went home was that I would see him, Jake Kent. My childhood best friend turned enemy. I just had to pray for the best.
