Chapter 1 - The prophecy

Prophecies are usually fated, they say. It was destiny. Lucien Bert believed that at least but he found it utterly abnormal when he discovered this one. Later that night, his colleagues didn't want to hear about any of it.

They have always been absent minded anyway, Lucien thought. So he digged in researches and spent the whole night on it. It was past three now and his wife must be worried. He wasn't ready to go home yet though. Not until he was done.

In the dead of the night, they will appear

Two from the same light, broken and sent away

Two hearts with the same glow

Ascend to save earth when time is ready

Or perish it along with their powers...

Lucien couldn't think... Two hearts? Destroying the world? Could it be that the children found out about their prophecy research and decided to play a joke on them?

No!! Lucien's mind refuse to believe that. There has to be something, a sign.... Anything! And that's when he saw it.

The night was dark outside with the sole existence of one star. It's light was powerful, strong and beautiful in all the ways possible. Lucien blinked at the sight and glanced back at the prophecy.

In the dead of the night, they will appear...

So there must be another. Lucien searched the sky but the star was the only thing present. He glanced back at the parchment paper on his desk and frown. Two from the same light...?

Could that be asteroids? Million of thoughts raced through his mind and he struggle to concentrate and keep a clear view on the matter. It was probably nothing... But yet it kept bothering him.

As he glanced in the sky again, the star began to twinkle. How pretty, he thought, Maria would love it. His wife always loved sparkling things and love the way stars shine. He smiled at the thought. There was a sudden blur then. He blinked. Twice. The star was splitting...

Gasping, he rubbed his eyes. This wasn't real, it couldn't be. It was happening! Hurrying to get a closer look, he accidently knock out various contents on his desk. Pens, ink and paper shattered on the floor as he raced to the small balcony in the room. His eyes not leaving the star, he try to find his phone in his pocket to call his wife.

Before him, the twinkling star emitted such a magnificent glow as it began to tear itself apart to finally become two lights... Two stars. They circle around each other in the sky and Lucien gaped, not believing his senses anymore. He forgot about the call he was about to make and forgot about the rest of the world for an instance. They were beautiful. Lucien kept staring, he couldn't do otherwise.

In the blink of an eye, the first star felt. Like a meteroid, down to earth but Lucien couldn't move. His eyes wide open, he just stared as the second star felt too but in the opposite direction, down to earth...

Lucien woke up with a gasp and with the sun streaming down his face. His surrounding was strange. The events from last night came flooding back to him. He was still on the balcony and he couldn't even recall falling asleep.

Checking his phone, he found missed calls from his wife. His trembling hands dialled her number and he got up.

Was it a dream? He didn't know. But how could such thing happen in real life?

"Oh Lucien, where were you? I've been worried all night." The voice of his wife through the phone brought him back.

"No need to worry, love. I was at work and I probably fell asleep." Lucien was always a gentle man and Maria was always put at ease with his voice. She sighed and asked in a low voice. "When are you coming home?"

"Did anything happened?" Maria rarely ask him to leave work as she could always handle herself. But... Her voice got Lucien worried and he immediately grabbed his keys and walked to his car.

"Well... Just... Come home." And she ended the call.

The drive home was silent and fast. Lucien wasted no time explaining to his colleagues why he stayed the night or why he was leaving so fast now. They didn't bother asking actually. Home and work was only a 30 minutes drive and Lucien got home by the 20 minute. Roads were clear and free in this early morning.

Maria was at the door when he parked. She was a fair woman with dark hair, cut at shoulder length. Her cheeks was naturally pink, like she just came out from a very cold winter. Her smile didn't show on her face today.

Something was definitely wrong.

Lucien got out of the car and walked up to her, almost jumped to her.

"Maria..." But she only tugged him inside and out to the backyard. There, in the middle, stood the light...

It was floating and Maria pressed herself closer to Lucien who stared in shock.

What the-- Lucien mind couldn't process and his feet moved to the floating light. Maria followed, clutching his hand and walking behind him.

"Honey, be careful.." Maria's shaking voice stop Lucien in his tracks.

He gently pushed her hands aside and gave her a smile. Then his hands reached out. He remembered the warmth from the light and as his fingers touched the light.....

"Ahhhhhh...."
