Land of Giants
Holly bristled as the footsteps got closer. She tried to shake the fright that was creeping up on her away and continued to brush her hair, but a part of her was still afraid. Despite the fact that nothing ever happened in the Land of the Elven, those footsteps were far too loud to belong to an Elf. So who—
“Holly!” Faster than she could react, the brush was plucked out of her hands. “You only have five more minutes and you’re over here taking your sweet darn time! What were you thinking?”
“I was just—“
“Oh never mind!” said her friend, a fairy with a metal foot. All of Holly’s fright melted away. The footsteps were Deeah’s! She mentally chastised for being so stupid as to forget about Deeah’s metal foot. “Alright, Holly. You go out there, you do your weird moving routine—“
“Dancing.” Holly supplied in a tremulous voice, “And it’s not weird!”
“Sure.” Deeah said in an orotund voice. “Just go out there, and make me, and your family of course, proud!” then she dropped the brush back on the table and pushed Holly through the opening.
The opening that would take her to the future. To what was once her home before it got invaded, forcing everyone that didn’t want to live in fear to go back to the past.
But now, she would be returning, and she would be fighting. But before she could fight, she had to dance. She had to dance, to get her message across.
Because in the Land of Giants, or Earth, as she had learned it was called, dance was one of the few things that no one could take away. It made people feel confident, and happy. Dancing had to get her message across. If it didn’t.....
The Land of Giants would be destroyed.
